I've lurked on this board almost since its beginning (and learned more from it than from any textbook or class I've ever been in). I've owned my own 24/40 glassware since high school and did some simple experiments with the help of SMDB and RS, but never felt I had anything to contribute here until now.

Formally - my background is in organometallic synthesis, with a focus on small-molecule activation catalysis. I believe that precision and technique are essential for those who respect the science, and that the sloppiness that plagues other boards does our community a grave disservice. As clandestine chemists we are held to a higher standard than others; lives (directly or indirectly) depend on our work, and we have only our consciences, not regulatory agencies, to answer to.

My interest in drugs is political and philosophical as well as chemical; I hate the paternalizing nature of the drug war and believe in the sanctity of personal choice. The idea that a legal authority knows better than I what to put in my body is abhorrent; it's deeply satisfying to see the members of this forum pitting raw intelligence against the ham-fisted restrictions of the police and DEA...and winning time and time again.
