It finally happened to me

I just got a huge bump while boiling around a liter of xylene. That was pretty scary, I don't care to see or hear that again. I was right there at it too. I was fucking with the condenser so my hand was right there. What makes it worse is that now that I've bought other individual flasks and shit I am very aware of the inferior quality of this particular flask. Now I know that there is a reason why an entire 1000ml distillation kit was less than $300, the shit is paper thin. I'm not sure how many bumps like that it could take, but I aint trying to find out.

I'm trying to slowly replace the set I bought as a kit piece by piece with quality shit. It's expensive, but since I own some of this quality stuff already and have been able to work with it, I say it's well worth the money. My good ones are thick and heavy duty and just more pleasurable to work with.

Anyway, just thought I'd give props to whoever said "your first bump will scare the shit out of you", that man speaks the truth.

I was using a stir bar. Are boiling chips more effective? I guess the stirbar lost it's magnetic grip and wasn't spinning, so in that case almost anything would be better I suppose.

DO NOT USE a stir bar.  USE boiling chips!!

Oh well, no problems, like i was saying elsewhere,as you say, IF ONLY people would 'bother' to do a bit of  research, and stop asking, genuinely naive questions,which derail good topics and threads :'(
