Yeah its sure gonna put some physicists "knickers in a knot" thats for sure!!! I've been waiting for something like this to happen for quite a few years now,,it was, 'on the cards' as they say!, coz, as many may know, I am a believer in "overunity devices" and "overunity" IMO is a "relative function"
  But not as in alberts Special Laws OF Relativity,IMO they are 'missing something', so,and I say this without 'trying to toot my own trumpet'
and my friends whom I talk to about such things would KNOW, i have had a long standing personal dispute, with those theories, for reasons, I wont go into here, more than to say, "I think"we are about to develop a whole New "understanding of Gravity" and its related to light"

Is anyone really surprised? As soon as I heard it was a neutrino, I was pretty much no longer surprised. These fucking things live to defy physics and physicists.

  I think these guys "retested" there results about 15,000 times, BEFORE they released that paper...sure its a Tiny amount, but NASA have long been "troubled" by data they have obtained, using, Lasers to measure the distance to the moon IIRC bouncing them off a 'mirror', and getting "consistently INconsistent datum. I dont have Ref's handy, but I'm sure I could find them.

 You know I'm old enough to Rememer a world WITHOUT "found"( atom Smashed ) sub-atomic particles, even the TERM "lepton" was not yet 'Coined' when I was at school!!!

Yeah, neutrino's had been "noticed"  However the Technology, was as yet 'unavailable' to assess them,,,charged and Un charged particles (neutrino's) had yet to be Easily Detected...gee just read ,say a fifty year old, Paper on these matters

I am forced to ask..... Where is the evidence that the Neutrino even exist? Seriously, I never heard of this break through where anyone had managed to detect a Neutrino in the first place let alone send a beam of them at a detector somewhere. It was only a year or so ago I remember reading about how they are next to impossible to detect since they go through the detector! I can't help but doubt this paper greatly at the moment.

This was also proven to be false.. to date nothing travels faster than the speed of light. Ironically, perhaps.. this was disproving using one of Einstein's equations.

The study doesn't actually prove anything as the degree of uncertainty still suggests that they may travel under the speed of light or at it. As some theories say they have no mass (or fuck all mass), this still makes sense. The latest study defies that, but there are going to be an awful lot of instruments checked before anyone just accepts it. Then the question that will be asked is, how do we work out the supposed mass of these particles from Einstein's theorem, that e=mc² when doing so would invalidate the theory used to determine the mass? IF that is so, is it possible they have negative mass? Which is an obvious question, c² is a constant, so to derive e from the famous equation, the "most" probable answer may be that they have negative mass and as such they still stand outside the laws of physics, but for an entirely different reason.

How do you know, if it is not within our current detection ability?

It is my guess that the variance in speed is also the allowance for error in the tests done by these scientists.

When it comes to science.. theory is tested, and not "just a theory" like the creationists would prefer you to believe.

Yes both sedit and vesp are correct, however "testing a theory" requires developing some form of experiment to do so, and when it comes to "measuring" the speed of light, this was NOT possible in Einsteins day, and to some degree it seems it may STILL be tricky!!!

 After all, einstein postulated that the "speed of light" was, 'A Constant', and yet here we are more than 100years later, still UNABLE to say with CERTAINTY, that this IS the case!
