There is a book, written in 2004 by a guy named Sam Harris, called  "The End of Faith" he's a Stanford philosophy PhD...he explains very scientifically what we are discussing, including MRI investigations into 'emotional behaviours' so to speak.

Richard Dawkins, who wrote "The Selfish Gene" is quoted on the cover of this book as, "read Sam Harris and wake up"...I couldnt find it until recently, but he sums up the problem as the fact that as a "Belief System" muslims are on a par with 14th century christians, who WERE a pretty savage AND unreasonable bunch.
