yes, i couldn't think of a more appropriate comment than LOL when i myself read that...

Tailored for you

If you’re signed into Google, we can do things like suggest search queries – or tailor your search results – based on the interests you’ve expressed in Google+, Gmail, and YouTube. We’ll better understand which version of Pink or Jaguar you’re searching for and get you those results faster.

isn't that fucking amazing?
cause no KGB or CIA went that far and even openly advertised it.

I'm for this.. What is wrong with it?

1. They have data liberation.
2. They generally are a dick to the government when requesting information or taking down
3. Optional product, and you can use most of them when you are not signed in.

What is the issue? Other than it is important to be aware of the changes.. I think it is insane to compare them to KGB or anything else...

its called 'profiling', which is a huge business, which i am too involved with my own basic survival and getting high to give a fuck about, but just generally, the whole original google motto "don't be evil" has long been invalidated.
they even had the nerve to say g+ is not a social network but an "identity service", and you either give a real name or fuck you.

it is a corporation, and by the very nature and definition of such, it probably doesn't work in your interest if that doesn't include $$profits$$... for the people that so politely fuck you in the ass.
is how the world works, lol.
or at least the shithole we've made it to be for ourselves...

KGB and CIA tracked you down and collected info on you.

google can just pull out some 2000 pages on you in a matter of seconds.

again, just stating fact.

i like their style and design and shit and don't give that much of a fuck about it all.
it's natural and couldn't be any other way here and now.
just have this in mind and take care of your privacy hygine is all.

the LOL was in reference to using the word privacy.

I see both sides. They created the monster that is, the can do what they want with the Frankenstein. The "beauty" of free enterprise, I guess.

But more and more, I am uncomfortable with the google monster monitoring and archiving my every move.

Oh no profiling! How awful... What would you prefer they do? Hmm? Cease to exist? Let Bing & FB take over?

If only this were an optional service that told you what they were doing and gave you the ability to liberate your data that you gave them in the first place.
Its your fault you use a service you don't like - other options exist.

they don't.
if you use the internet, google owns your ass.
and you'd be amazed the extent to which you can be used and abused by google, facebook or any of those fuckers.

again, i say, i am just aware of this and have grown to not care about it.
the whole idea of an enterprise like google is make maximum profit with minimal investment in minimal time.
you can't blame google for the fact that people generally suck and deserve to die.
and do you, for a second, imagine the NSA doesn't have their fingers dipped in there?
just common sense and rationality speaking here.

yeah, I said I was uncomfortable. Didn't make any reference to being "forced" to use it.

My guess is they are tracking/archiving a lot more info than just "their formal" sites...I am sure their cookies are rather advanced.

There is an aura of defensiveness to your posts, why has this struck such a chord with you Vesp?

how can you not be forced to use it?

is like not having a mobile phone nowadays.

just lean on the good old crypto when you plan on taking over a banana republic is all.

they do what they do, cos it pays. if i was google, i wouldn't give a fuck about you, i promise.

but don't be naive to think anything otherwise.

wasn't it you that had the expression "stranger than fiction"?

love it.

I just think it is ridiculous to compare a company like Google to the KGB or the CIA when, like I've stated, you can just simply not use their products. It is fairly easy to block cookies, adwords, and use other things like duckduckgo and hushmail.

A good rule of thumb is generally "If you post it online, it isn't private"

I just don't really see what the fuss is about.
I'd be more concerned about the relationship with the government all of the businesses have - but they get no say in such a relationship. The government forces them to give up information and so on.. It isn't in the interest of the business to try and get their customers in trouble.

This really just boils down to this:
1. You'll see ads more targeted at you - so you might actually find products you want.
2. You'll likely be able to find information that you are interested in, faster.

Google, assuming it isn't getting in bed with the government, can only make money by helping people. In a free market an exchange of goods or services only happens when both parties benefit. So it is nice that their primary goal is to make money.

IDK about you, but i kinda find it disturbing facebook trying to sell me ueber potent mimosa bark.

and im not saying google is anything like the kgb or cia.
different eras, different times, different technologies, different everything.
but i do feel the comparison i made, in the context i put it, is quite fucking valid.
and not trying to measure dicks or anything, but that coming from someone who has had his traffic monitored and makes his legit bread working exactly what the title of this section... entitles.

nothing black and white good/evil here, just stating the obvious dry fact, which one should be deducing based on human psychology alone.

and all things considered, i do like google.
just consider this and that and always assume the worst, cos that's probably the reality of things.
lol.

Correction*

yes, not my bag of tricks but funny none the less.

Vesp. I don't dig on big brother. Privatized or not. Not sure why you are taking it so personally. Freedom of opinion should be something you are all about.
