What exactly would swapping out the methoxy's do?
« on: March 08, 2012, 05:32:23 AM »
We always see the 4 position played with in regaurds to the 2C and mescaline analogs but what would swapping out one of the methoxy groups do in regards to activity. I am aware phenethylamine antidepressants have some chlorines and fluorines put in some funky places but why am I having a hard time finding any mention of things like  3-chloro-4,5-dimethoxyphenethylamine or something related? I see 2,3 and 4-FA on the market and know that 4-FA is supposed to be the stronger releaser of the serotonin of the bunch but why (besides possible difficulty in synthesis((which I just now thought of))) haven't things like 2,4-dichloro-5-methoxy-phenethylamine been talked about?

I do not pretend to be knowledgeable about such things but seeing things like JWH-250 and JWH-203 make me wonder about this type of thing.

Always loving to learn more about this stuff, would love to hear about all of the actions of substitution across the generic 2C or even generic PEA molecule, I have much of it down but nobody every talks about weirder things like the beta position and whatnot.

2-Bromo-4,5-dimethoxyphenethylamine is mentioned in Pihkal and is available commercially for pretty cheap, I am thinking the 5 position would be more interesting than the 2 for the bromo but that is just a guess.

If you read deeply into TIHKAL and Shulgin's other works, he intentionally exhausted just about all orientations before honing in on the most effective ones. I suppose he could have missed something, though.

Have you looked into the Shulgin INDEX.... it is quite a book.
off to bigger and better things - don't worry I will visit from time to time

I HAVE it but have not had the time to 'read' it or the time to dedicate to understanding the majority of what is in it.

I am sorry if this type of stuff is (most likely) mentioned in literature and I did not know about, I figured that there would be a post or two about this stuff online though and that is what I am having trouble finding. There is a large 'middleground' between those who are in the know about these things and I can't quite tell where I am with any of it.

I gave the thing a passing over as soon as I got it knowing quite well that it would sit until I had all of my other priorities finished up. Pulling it down I don't even know where to start but if I was Shulgin I sure as hell wouldn't publish all of the secrets in 1 book (PIHKAL). This has led me to think that there are others that would be plausible for activity that are not mentioned because even though he published this for all to read part of me likes to think that he understood the need for more in the future.

This could wishing and dreaming but I like to think that he was/is a genius and could predict at least partially what his research  would entail.

And on a side note, reading after researching 5-MeO-MiPT is not quite as easy as going online and trying to talk to everyone here...  especially the Shulgin Index. You would think he would almost want to have them printed in a Psychedelic Braille.

Jokes aside I don't even know where to start looking in this thing. Can some one please point me in the direction of how to advance from the 'middleground' understanding of both chemistry and psychedelics to the more informed? PIHKAL and TIHKAL are easy as pi but when we get passed that and on to SAR I would really love to get a better handle on this stuff and it seems to me I need to know where to first start reading and to know how to start reading.

Thinking I may go listen to some music now.
