hello fellow chemistry enthusiasts! oh the wonders one can find on the almighty internet haha.

so who am i? well with as little detail as possible  :-X, i am a way finder that loves to learn and in the past 20 mins of browsing i've already learned how to construct a hotplate from scratch! fuckin alright thats a buck 50 i can spend on more glass.

Good to have you hermes. Hopefully you can add some interesting discussion to this community. If possible, take pics of your projects and share them with us and maybe it will motivate others. (just make sure to delete EXIF and personal data from pictures)

Hey dopebee (didn't get the name til i said it out loud and it made me giggle) glad to be hear.

I think that most of my projects as I begin this learning process will be of the legal sort, like the distillation of local plants for their essential oils, extraction of gold from ores (supposing I can find some, but I do live in gold country so I'm hopeful), and liquifying air to get nitrogen using the Linde Process. So I'm not sure how useful my findings will be to the members of this forum except for maybe the distilling of the plants, but information is information nonetheless.

I was actually curious if anyone had ever tried to liquify air before? Could it be a viable means of producing nitrogen, which could then be turned into something more useful like listed substances? I've reading about many of the methods used to acquire hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, and many of the heavy metals and was wondering why people aren't interested in these methods of acquiring their chemicals. Is it too troublesome for the output?

Hermes, welcome to this forum. I hope you can find a home here.

There is really no need or use in attempting to extract N2 besides the technical challenge of course. Your guess is right, it is much to troublesome. There is enough difficulty in the synthesis of our needed precursors. You will want to try any synthesis from the best possible reactants available to you! If your looking for nitrogen containing compounds just start from household ammonia solutions. It's all you will get from N2 through the Haber process anyways.

The search engine wots so fondly referred to usually as UTFSE is a wonderful tool, and yes tis worth UTFSE ;D

hmmmm? you wanna do chemistry from 'scratch' eh? lol   It doesnt quite work that way bro  :D assembling chemical compounds is not quite that straightforward.  You may find this place a little daunting from the chemistry pov  I know I do  :P...but please, enjoy as best you're able...there's lots of interesting data on all sorts of plants and extractions 8)
