LOL, the latter story reminds Toady of the Rammstein song 'spring' and one of the videos on youtube, where a massive crowd form below a jumper, and start encouraging him to jump.

It isn't clear whether the incident was a case of the officer taking revenge on the guy or the system failed.

Things like this happen because regulations, rules, and procedures serve to remove the officers' personal responsibility and discretion thereby creating a machine.  In the old days the officer just gave the guy his stuff and parked him on the sidewalk.  In the name of efficiency someone decided to have a clerk handle that so the officer can get back to  "doing more impotent things".  Every time there was a major abuse of discretion, laws got passed and turned into rules and procedures which eventually require more people to handle.

Eventually the system is so laden with rules that it becomes rigid and machine like - sort of like the customer service system "press 1 if x, press 2 if y"  but if you want "z" you're fucked.  That is the state of government.  There are points in the procedure where there is a transfer of responsibility - ie the officer has to give paperwork to some clerk to start the "let them go process".    He no longer has the discretion to do things any differently, therefore he doesn't feel any personal responsibility for what happens after he chooses from the options available to him.

Hitler's regime is a good example of how inhumane systems can be created out of normally humane individuals.  No part of the system has any responsibility for the whole or effects.   Someone who truly understood human nature engineered that machine.

In America it is ironic that much of the intent behind the legislation is usually to prevent inhumanity.   In doing so it usually creates unintended side effects and sometimes creates what it tried to prevent.

Just keep the computerized customer service analogy in your mind in your encounters with the criminal justice system.  Don't expect there to be any common sense to it and therefore know what the trigger points are.  It's a machine created the handle the mass cases.  Google "Police SOP" if you are curious how much discretion the local cop has.

So true salat. The regulations and procedures really dehumanize people. Might as well be herding cattle. And of course the prison employees and the cops use the excuse that they're "just doing their job."

Anyone see the kelly thomas beating? Pretty sad state of affairs:

whoa DBmon! that is up there with the most fucked things I've ever seen  >:(

Personally I'd 'prefer' to have my head cut off by chainsaw wielding zetas, than have this happen to me  :o  :'(

IMO what makes it SO bad is, not only has the guy DONE NOTHING to deserve this treatment,  but these cunts are just run of the mill pigs

the ones who show up to 'help', and then bust out the tazer, don't even know the guys name, let alone what 'crime' he has supposedly committed  :o >:(

And then after pounding on him for ten minutes, you can hear some cunt's telling him to 'relax' :o   How do they possibly 'justify' this behaviour to themselves (or anyone?)

There's not many situations where fresh would even consider violence as an option...but if the opportunity had been available to 'eliminate' these cunts without retribution...he would've gladly done so!

I could MAYBE 'start to understand' IF they were detectives who were dealing with a well known HARD criminal, who was being dangerously aggressive ....but this guy ???  WTF?  No way!

Farkin hell!  >:(  fresh thinks this shit rates as truly scary!

One rarely sees or hears of such indiscriminate and ruthless police assaults occurring down here, (another oz bonus)  although I know they do happen especially in the outback  where the aborigines are often treated like shit by the local LE...and there has been many 'suspicious' aboriginal deaths in custody which has recieved a lot of media attention (and seems to have improved in the last decade 8))

But thank fuck down here, you don't hear of some homeless dude in the city being jumped on by 6 cops who do enough damage to KILL him...

 It's just . . . "Un Australian!"  :o

makes you wanna ask,  "ipso custodes custodiet?"  which is latin for  "who guards the guards?"

a question that was already being asked during the days of the Roman empire as corruption amongst them became a problem :P

thanx for sharing that DopeBee  8)

and nigluhS that linked list is frightening!  We dont even come close on a pro-rata per capita basis down here  :P  thank fuck!

btw i just found out the US has 4 times as many murders per 100,000 people than Oz  :-\ but that South Africa has 10x the US' rate! and columbia is even higher at about 12x  :o

salat has a point it's called compartmentalization
they only tell you what you need to know to be a cog in the machine this way they get blind obeidience.
obedience is nesssecary for an authoritarian government to work thats why they brainwahed us so well
