You know who's a bad mutherfucker? Sedit
« on: November 24, 2012, 04:47:56 PM »
I was just reading about Sedit's work with lithium bronze in 2009 and I have to try it. I have some other things I need to finish before I start new experiments, but I am definitely gonna try to repeat some of your experiments, Sedit.

Is anybody doing anything interesting now? I've been playing with the local plant life as of late, seeing what all is in them and whatnot. Maybe I'll find something interesting enough to add to the plant board here. I'd love to hear if anybody is doing anything original and experimental in nature, ie not some synth you've done a million times.  Since picking my beakers and flasks back up, I've figured some stuff out that eluded me before, mostly because I was impatient.  I think I may get myself a three neck flask for X-mas. That should make for some fun setups   :D

Anyway, I just wanted to come say how awesome Sedit is. Not like I didn't already know that  :-* But, when you go looking up shit you wanna read about and you find that someone you already know of has contributed lots in that area, it makes you wanna come tell them they're awesome.

LOL, its really not me brother but i'm glad to see someone else attempting the Lithium bronze instead of trying a shake and bake bullshit.

I must say I am honored however I feel there are many here much more able then I am that I hold in much higher regards. I hope to one day provide the community with that magic bullet to kill the evil WOD demon with but until then all I can do is work on what I can with such a limited budget and equipment.

Bah, you're just being modest, but that's cool I guess. But I have learned all kinds of shit from you in the last year and a half-two years.

I'm not having much luck with google,  does anyone know if there is a way to oxidize specific positions about a phenyl? If I wanted to say, put an oxygen at the fifth position,  like in mescaline, could I? What is that called if its possible? I cant find anything that says its possible. I have an idea I'd like to try if it is possible.

You want to hydroxylate the ring. Depending on the other functional groups on the ring it might be possible to halogenate the ring and then hydroxylate with OH- and Cu(I). Check out this mescaline synthesis for an example: https://www.erowid.org/archive/rhodium/chemistry/mmda.mescaline.html

There is a constant rotation around the carbon axis meaning there is no difference between the 1 and 5 position in the case of Mescaline, they are essentially one in the same.

Generally if you wished to hit a specific position that is not generally favored the use of a directing group such as sulfonation is applied such as done in some nitration reactions to ensure proper positioning and desired product.

Damn, see? That's awesome and makes perfect sense, thanks.

And thanks to Polonium as well. If I know what doing doing the thing is called I can find the info I'm after.

That mescaline synth is awesome in terms of what I was asking, thanks.
