Boys and girls . There is a very valuable underground chemistry archive mentioned on different sites on the net that can be downloaded called " The YouTopia Ark " . There are at least three versions of it . One person has reported that the first beta version has a malware file in it . Over the years that that beta version of it has been around nobody else has reported that as far as i know .

If anyone who has that beta version has malware protection software on their computers they are not in danger .

As i was wrongly brought into conection with it and wrongly blamed for makeing it just because i posted links to it i got in touch with all the sites i know that mention that beta version and the sites where it could be downloaded from and asked for it to be deleted .

There are at least two later versions of that archive around the net that definately have no malware on them so if you have them or download them you are not in any way in danger . It would be a crying shame if that ark got a bad name because one person has complained about one aledged malware program on it .

I have talked to one of the team that made them . They are good people and have invested years into makeing it as a free service to the scene and it would be realy shit if they , their project and " The YouTopia Ark " it self got fucked just because of that one person and the fact that an early version might have had a malware program / virus in it .

As you know i saw yours and x's lil debocle, and im glad you took the high road on this one. Maybe giving the md5 hash of the malwared version would bee helpful, along with a for-sure clean version. If you were to post i, and im sure other wasps, would bee happy to post virus scans of it, along with the hash to make sure to keep our people safe.

I dont know if i have that beta version ...... i think i have the one after that and a half made beta version of a later version that i was given to test ....... but i definately havent got the latest version that i have been told is in the net somewhere .

As to MD5 hash`s ...... i dont know how to do that ..... AND ...... i have seen reports around the net that they are a waste of time because there is software that takes any file and packs it so that it can have any MD5 hash . If i can remember where i read about it i`ll post it .

Executables in an archive made for bees? Don't even think about running them! It's all too easy for those who want to see you nailed to the wall. They don't even need to modify the executable in a way that would resemble malware, as they don't need to compromise your computer to compromise YOU. All they need is to add a bit of code to make it connect back to some server to, say, load a basic web page or something else innocuous - and they have your IP address. May or may not be legal, but there are a lot of sketchy ass cops out there. BEWARE.

Any / nearly any ? file can be manipulated and contain bad code that malware detectors dont find . If a person has decent uptodate malware protection and a fire wall on his computer he is as safe as he can be . If people want to protect themselves from what you are talking about they would have to stop surfing .

Hey Guys I have a serious problem with your problems. First. I would have been surprised if such a huge archive would not show malware signatures, it is more surprising it are only so few. Those who compiled it might have had a better look but on the other hand they maybe they had and just their malware detection was running on "rational" and not on "paranoid", as WizardX is a known paranoid so hell.
Everybody has to apply his own standards here, not scanning such files after dl says you are either part of the internet masses (and then you are riddled with malware anyways) or able to handle this otherwise like not running Windows OS.
And signatures, well are signatures, does not say any actually functional stuff is present. On virtually every computer fragments can be found which also appear in malware. Its a question of definition where you draw the line.
So there might be malware in the file (Huh! Surprise!! Huh!) or not. There are hints but nothing near to a proof.
And I don't give a fuck anyways.

But why are you Lone Deranger, ups that was somebody else, you Lone Stranger getting so hysteric about somebody implying that you may have been part in compilation and distribution of the arc? Would have made me proud. Who the fuck should go after you for what fucking reason? True, this are valid points and you are likely right - will give you that.

Assyl is just acutely aware how easy it is, having been a bit of a blackhat in days past. Lone Stranger pointed out that anything can be exploited, including simple jpeg files, leading to arbitrary code execution - but the thing is, someone can learn from "tuts" how to modify an executable in the way described - exploits take real skill and a hell of a lot of work to find. The barrier to entry is much, much lower with executables.

As for how to surf securely, set up a non-persistent virtual machine and configure its internet connectivity so that everything routes through tor, or an exploited box somewhere on the planet, or (better yet) both. That way, if the VM itself gets exploited, nothing will be compromised, including the IP. Best to run the VM in a different operating system. Use an external hard drive with TrueCrypt to protect data (use a good, random alphanumeric password). Assyl has seen this save someone's ass in the past.

To each there own, Organikum may (likely) be right about it not being worth pursuing for the police (though scumbags may still be enticed by the windfall of a robbery) - it was Lone Stranger's assertion that this was safe that really needed discrediting. It is a risk, whether small or large. Antivirus software is still deeply flawed, even today, and can be evaded with ease. Speaking from experience here.

I feel bad for you vesp . You didnt deserve this nor did i ... . I`m not a fuckin moslem tourist and this isnt guantanamo bay . .......nor did those arks or the people that made them .

I`ve been put in a position that could if the worse came to the worst i would have to go to court and defend myself for something that i didnt do . I dont know if you or anyone else has read in the press over the last few years about people who are acused of copywrong offences ? Some of them have to pay sums up to about 600000 $ . There are a lot of copywrong things in that ark .

Before anyone says i`m paranoid take a look at torrentfreak and read about the cases mentioned there . Then think about people like strike who got busted and all the other bees who use sites like this who have been busted ...... then also think about the members of anonymus and lutzsec who are real computer safety experts ...... and they got busted to . If the pigs can get them what chance do i have if they want me because someone has made false statements about me ...... and we all know that LEO hangs around in this scene .

I have to live from a very small disability pension and have just gone through a bankrupcy aplication . If i get even the smallest of debts the whole thing gets stopped and i have to pay the court costs and the state prosecuters costs . Then i cant make another aplication for the next ten years . That would mean that i would be in debt for the rest of my life and have the bailifs knocking on my door every few months to .

As far as i`m concerned wiz kid has comited the bigest sinn a person in this scene can comit . I pointed it out to him and he did it again two times .

He made a realy amature and broken piece of shit called the X-Files wich contains potentialy deadly missinformation ........ has he deleted his crap ? Has he opened any threads warning people about it ?

PLUS ..... look at how my minus points here have shot up since he attacked me . Who did they come from ? Disshonest mental cripples ? His fan club ? Himself ?

That proves that that system doesnt work . Its to easy to manipulate and the people who have posted shit dont know why people think its shit or who voted against them . They did a good job , it took them years and the other later copys are OK and a free service to the comunity .
