GHB from MSG Fermentation?
« on: February 25, 2013, 02:45:54 AM »
Haven't had enough time to look more into it but it seems that the shroomery thinks this is feasible.

Wine has been found to contain GHB and it seems to be made during fermentation some how, I don't have enough time or space right now to do any experiments but if I let this idea 'ferment' maybe something interesting will come out of it.

Here is some negative discussion of the idea from reddit
http://www.reddit.com/r/Drugs/comments/15fx1z/brew_ghb_spiked_alcohol_easy_and_at_home_just_add/

I wish I had more to add but if this can be worked out and verified it would be quite a nice reaction to run, MSG to GHB via fermentation sounds too good to be true but who knows, maybe something can slip by like this.

I will check back on this in a bit once I am in a new place.

Huh, Assyl investigated this some time ago, can't remember the outcome but must've concluded it was a shitty idea - but the discussion on Bluelight sure makes it sound like it works. If so, it will be the drunkard's response to shake and bake.

Glutamic acid decarboxylase can turn MSG to GABA, which has a terminal primary amine where a hydroxyl should be for GHB. GABA transaminase can finish the job. I guess it's feasible. GABA is totally unsuspicious and OTC, though.

Anyone with a Shroomery account care to save that thread as one big page, zip it up, and post it as an attachment?

Beware consuming GHB with alcohol: the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

If you ferment amino acids with sugar and yeast you get the corresponding alcohol of that amino acid, with the oxygen attached at the spot where the amino group used to be, like so:

R.CH(NH2).CO2H + H2O ==> R.CH2OH + CO2 + NH3

It can in effect also be used on Tryptophan (yields Tryptophol), Phenylalanine (Phenethyl alcohol) and Tyrosine (Tyrosol)

EXPERIMENTAL: 5gr Tryptophan and 600gr sugar were fermented at room temperature with 400gr fresh yeast (= 133gr instant dry yeast) Fermentation lasted 3 days. The yeast was filtered out, the brew contained the Tryptophol which could be isolated. (isolation likely can be improved by extracting into an organic solvent then going from there)

I have access, it's tried and reported 20 pages long. Still wondering though, been wanting to test this out as I could discern the effects easily (Hate ethanol effect-profile, have been addicted to GHB)

Up to now there have been no GC/MS reports but looking at which effects some users experienced i'd say it works!

Hello All,

thanks for the great thread, the pdf write up and all!
Was thinking about this for quite a while now - i can not judge if it works, but it sounds plausible.
Going with high yeilding yeasts to be able to use as much sugar/msg as possible, and so on.

What i was wondering about was, couldn't the alcohol and liquid be just evaporated?
It doesn't sound like a good idea drinking alcohol + ghb (don't like alcohol anyway)

ps.: sorry if there is something about it in the pdf files, haven't had time to read them yet, all i know is the original post
