Interesting news story...
« on: August 28, 2009, 05:54:22 PM »
http://www.ktvu.com/health/20597907/detail.html

"Researchers at the University of California San Diego performed brain scans on 16- to 19-year-olds in three groups: binge drinkers, binge drinkers who also smoke pot, and those with very little drug or drinking experience.

Binge drinkers showed damage in their white matter. But those who drink and smoke showed more damage than the control group in only three of eight areas of the brain. In seven of the areas, their brains were in better shape than the binge drinkers."

I take studies with a grain of salt but this is still considerably interesting. Cannabis has really been making a lot of headway in the past week or so. First Mexico, then Argentina, I don't know what's next.

I also remember reading that, I think in Colorado, or at least some city in Colorado they are considering making the fine for the possession of marijuana one dollar.

Denver is considering it. They have already made it the lowest priority for law enforcement officers.

(I hear they are considering making marijuana mandatory in Bolder, but that may be one of those campus rumors... in Bolder, you never know...)

Who cares about studies. Richard Nixon commissioned a study to determine how dangerous weed is and they came back saying it's harmless and should be legalized. He immediately dismissed the study and declared a war on drugs. Studies don't mean shit, politicians groundless views and opinions do.

Never assume a politician's views are groundless.

You may assume they are not based on science, yes. You should assume they are grounded in the results of the latest poll of his electoral constituency. Politicians disregard science, yes. This does not mean they are ignorant. It means they will do anything they can to obtain and use power for their own ends.

Claiming to legalize drugs is political suicide anyways, so they say.
I mean, look at how successful Ron Paul has been lately - and that is even with an out of control government. I mean he has some issues, but I really think the biggest reason people don't like him is because he'd legalize all drugs. It seems most people want to have too little freedom, then have the burdens of to much freedom.

Proportionally, hardly anyone wants drugs to be legal. Cops, judges, lawyers, politicians, investigators of various sorts, etc all practically make a living off of the fact they are illegal. Pharmaceutical companies might even make more money off of their prescription opiates because they are regulated. And of course their isn't really any reason for a soccer mom, or whatever family to want them legalized either.
.. if only they realized it was a war on our liberty, and not for our safety :P

Bingo, it has to be a slow attack.  I did a project at my university a couple semesters ago, and our group collaborated to present how and why we should end the war on drugs in America.  It should not be dictated by federal agents, but should in fact be controlled by individual states.
