What is this modification, and can you find it?

looking at the registration page for the lycaeum, I've decided I'd like to have that 300 word essay thing to be part of the registration of this forum.. I think it would help improve member quality, etc.
I may not use exactly 300 words, etc.. but it is a good thing to have I think.

do you know why they do this?/ is it to "weed out" inappropriate members by asking for some "personal' experience--if its LE or ? then,, either they are lying,, or compromised by admitting to

being involved with "taboo" topics???????

overall it could be a really good thing...like an extended introduction for all to read (betweeen the lines as well) it might help in a variety of ways

It prevents Lazy posters from entering a forum. They more then likely where having situations like were a good member would spend his time doing a very nice post on something just to have it followed with off topic crap about what swims mamas cat did the other day and how fucked up his sisters grandfathers pet lizard was after drinking a bottle of cough medicine.

This post is like 100 words.... If a member can not be bothered to post something three times longer then this what good is there lazy ass to a forum in the first place? None at all.

I like the idea and agree it would help maintain the bar where post quality is concerned.  Ive got an idea on how to make it work with SMF.. I'm off to test it out now.. and will send you a link Vesp to a test forum so you can login and have a look at it.. Give me about 30 minutes.

Well I am SO glad I tested the idea before I trotted it out here. The mod I was thinking of won't install correctly on the test forum.. So I never did get to test the process.

in theory..I was thinking you could create a permissions group that would grant the potential member access to a given forum where they would have to post the essay for submission. The forum itself is post moderated and must be reviewed by the moderator assigned to that board before it gets posted and is credited to the user. To make this work you need to have the mod that enables post count based permissions, the mode that requires a given number of words for a post. The mod I tried to get setup was a template mod for framing up the requirements for the essay forum.
With these in place, the user is automatically accepted and granted access to a specified number of forums as soon as his post number changes from 0-1.

I have some other things going on at the moment.. but will try to set an example in the next coupe hours..

It also brings up the issue of incriminating ones self. Some members might have great and extensive knowledge, but only in drug synthesis. Am sure they wont like giving you an essay on that. After all it is the internet and thats why you have moderators to nail the shit heads before they dig there heals in.

Get some tighter bouncers.(MODS)

Even swims like spun had some good points sometimes. Everyone has a right to an opinion after all it is science.
