Well, yuck is your first thought too huh?
Still, our body enzymatically demethylates codeine to morphine and that is about as far as it goes...
So the question is, if one were a moderate-high user of codeine, how much morphine would be in a weeks urine?
I'd expect that acid hydrolysis of the glucaronide (?) to give the free morphine/codeine salt - separation of the insolubles formed
Base with sodium hydroxide to get the morphenate (amongst a LOT of other crud), use an NP to remove any NP solubles
Hit the morphenate/etc. with Ammonium chloride to release the morphine base into fresh NP layer (which will take some codeine with it).
The initial acid/base should remove a LOT of non-phenolic crud that is NP soluble
The other phenolic constituents might be an issue
Any ideas?

Maybe we could kill two stones with one bird.
(shortly before having my liver explode from the ridiculous amounts of every pharmaceutical known to man).
one week less a day now since I stopped my self.
