Confirming Legitimacy of online businesses
« on: December 02, 2009, 11:51:46 PM »
When one is buying chemicals, often it is heard that b2b sites such as tradekey and indiatrader, are good websites to get in contact with companies. But there are a lot of scammers on this website also.

When asked to prove they are a legitimate company, they often (many from south africa) will link to http://www.cipro.co.za/2/home/. Or "Welcome to the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office of South Africa" as they provide on there site.

Well looking into this, it seems they support team cannot provide me with the information about how one business owner might become list on their site, such as tax papers, or anything to prove that they really are a REAL company. So this site doesn't hold much ground.

What are some of the ways to know that the company from tradekey or other sites that are easy to be tricked on are legitimate?

Ask for a sample.

Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. The company i just bought chemicals from wanted 650 for a sample (shipping) but its only 300 dollars less shipping wise, to buy 100grams for some reason.

A lot of websites like tradekey and alibaba have special programs like "verified members" and "gold members."

Does anyone know how effective these registration programs are, like what they actually check if anything, or if its just a nominal fee to get a title?

I'm pretty sure they verify them. Not to sure how.. but I think it is both a nominal fee and a verification.

I started talking to one place, then received a Merry Christmas e-mail from Miss Brian Dick :-\

I'm fairly sure I'm not going to be ordering anything from there.  Then again, I know legitimate asian businesses try to pick U.S.-friendly names too, so who knows.
