Every time you log on, you HAVE to check the box that says "Stay Logged in". I learned this the hard way too, after a couple of times I will never forget again. Sorry about that hypnos, I know it sucks!

Check That Box!

I never get logged out -- if you click the forever thing, and have your computer save your settings... you'll be logged on as long as you want too

Sorry about this! I wish there were a way to just make that the default setting, but AFAIK I haven't seen any permissions to change...

If you are using Firefox, goto Tools up the top then click on options. You get the options window come up, click the tab that says privacy. In the last section there is a box that says "Always clear my private data when I close firefox" if you check that box you will be fine! As all forums remember your username if you read your PMs etc etc, by way of a tracking cookie. Tracking cookie does not mean it compromises your security, it merely uses that to track your progress through the site. So it can tell you if you have a PM that needs reading, whether there are new posts to read and which ones you have already read etc. Checking the box above means every time you close fiefox, all that data will be removed including the cookie that was used for the session! So if you check the Always stay logged in box, you dont even need to log out properly just close Firefox and it will log you out and clean up! That is also why you cant even log onto any private forum without having cookies enabled (or at least adding an exception for the site in the cookies section in options). If you are using another browser (like Chrome or Iron) you can do the same thing.

If you are worried about your privacy when accepting cookies, you really should not be in this case. If you are using a proxy server your real IP is safe (like usual), and only your activity on the site can be seen by the server that sent the cookie (like which topics you were reading etc).

Also, instead of rewriting the post, just click the back button a couple of times, ctrl+a to select the whole post, then ctrl+c to copy it all, then hit the forward button back to where you've logged in, then find where you meant to post, open it and then hit ctrl+v to paste the whole thing back in.

I often write long replies (especially those with url's and other code bits) in notepad and just copy and paste them where I want them.

I refuse to stay logged in, in terms of security it is a no-no - then again, the pigs will crack your passwords/etc. in no time if they ever do come (they cracked all of mine in next to no time flat).

thanx guys i ALWAYS appreciate this type of 'smart and simple' advice--i think for the time while i'm using 'publiic computas' i'll follow your advice no1 (yo jaun,,you know its 'personal' i dont know how anyone can believe a word you say ;D ;D ;D)

hey no1 mon, sorry to hear you had to deal with those "time consuming and exspensive" bully boys :'(

,do you mind if i ask "which pigs" and "were they very complicated passwords?"  I imagine they weren't too simple..and what did they get to access as a result?? did they get into your email?
was there anything they couldnt access due to clever encryption(hiding your data in a photo of some pretty babes widget :o) or some other method ???
