If only there were a way to lower the demands on illegally produced safrole? Ah, oh well. Thanks for sharing the video, pretty interesting for what it is.

They say they make carcinogenic waste from doing this -- obviously talking about the safrole, later they then show them dumping out gallons into the soil... Way to protect the rain forest!

Now, as for those giant distillation set ups, that would be really fun to have -- not as big, but still pretty big for the purpose of distilling pine tree oil, juniper, sage brush, etc.
It seems like small legitimate profits could be made from doing that, as those plants are a dime a dozen, they'd be easy to get.

Here is another sorta related article, about how cocaine use causes global warming

the WoD is more to blame for this than anything else.  if they regulated the oils but still made it available you wouldn't have people going into the jungles like that.  dedicate more space for commercial production of oil from other plants that produce high safrole content and sell it to whoever wants it, problem solved.  the trouble would the years it would take to produce enough of the replacement plant species to start filling the void but once they got that far then there'd be no problem b/c from there on out it'd be a renewable source.  they just need to dedicate the commercial space to it wherever and hire all the farmers, there would be plenty of money coming in because demand is high.

Yep seen that documentary also, burning gallons of safrole seems kinda wasteful!?
