Like buzzing around plants
« on: May 05, 2010, 01:54:42 AM »
I'm playing around with distillation and extractions.   Have friends who do chemistry and am learning from them.  Love researching all the old chemistry and pharmaceutical manuals.

Distillations and extractions are what brought me into chemistry some time back and got me in the knack of creating my equipment from avalible materials since I started when I was young.

I feel here at The Vespiary manys storys follow a simular pathway and you may find you'll fit in just fine here. Welcome to our forums and if in need of any assistance feel free to contact Vesp, Myself or any of our other fine moderators.

I like making things and love researching stuff.  I've downloaded several of the books at this site.  I have a huge directory full of stuff I've collected from google books and scribd  Some of the old pharmaceutical journals are really fun stuff.  Those were the days - the chemist made everything - ink, insecticide, mom's perfume.  And it's really funny to see them discussing the quality of the coca leaves and how someone slipped some other variety  into the last shipment.  Recipes calling for cocaine, heroin or cannibis and everyone touting things like mercury etc as wonder drugs - nothing has changed!  Wonder which of our current crop of pharmaceuticals will become illegal and reviled next century.

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes I believe it is indeed on there. I do have a search function on the starter page so perhaps yo can try there and see what you get.

I just started back on getting the FTP going again so expect alot of new additions and some eye candy ect... to spice up the site along with a more comprehensveweb crawing system.

Actually I landed on the book section from another site.  Grandad's isn't one that I downloaded though, I'll go check it out.  I thought the golden book of chemistry was cool - kids got to have a lot more fun than they do now!!

I've been hanging around here for a few days and I like the fact that there is a broad range of interests being discussed - ie on enthogen forums you can't talk about synthesis and synthesis folks don't seem too interested in talking about growing or extracting from plants.  So I like the mix.  Also you seem fairly tolerant of new people, there are some forums that have so many rules you're afraid to say anything at all.

You think we are lax on rules? You should have seen some of the earlier threads when there was only a hand full of us here. The topic would start on one subject then a few pages latter be off on a tanget somewhere on a totally different discussion. We are like the ADHD child of forums.

We are pretty tolerant or atlest I am for one. If I come down on someone you can be your ass your fucked up pretty bad. Luckly I have only had to do things of that nature a few times and poorly written/ thoughtout threads and completely lazyness is about my only petpeave.

Yeah, we are tolerant of new people, and they are very welcome but if they don't show respect or contribute we generally just get rid of them or ignore them. Only a few of them have came and gone -- such as rocketman, or whatever his name was.

The ADHD problem of this forum is a bit of a turn off for me, though it really isn't all that bad anymore. I don't know how it would be addressed either, but I think this forum is doing really well, and I think it will only get better once even more experienced people join and post. Eventually this site will be more secure then it is currently, and I think that will be a big turn on for a lot of people who would otherwise be members. I just need to get a proper understanding and the proper funds to update the site for what I'd like it to be... Its a work in progress.

Actually the ADHD is how things get discovered, IMHO the biggest problem in science now is that everything is so specialized and hyperfocused that the interrelatedness or systematic nature of the real world gets lost.
