oh yea can the scroll-applet be made a bit slower? i have a hard time clicking on the titles, and i don't have parkinson
syn, as for the ban of indole: i guess i was wrong seeing him as a no-brainer, but he had some contradictory statements in his posts. and i think that this is what leads to great confusion, i.e. one time he says methylammonium acetate sucks for p2np synth., in the next post he praises it as THE catalyst itself. i don't know how that's supposed to help me and all the other interested bees in progressing with our work (since he seems to have tried out quite a few methods, at least he claims to have done so).
anyways, i've had some nice successes at the lab as of late and guess what, it's all gonna be typed up right on the spot |

Well done Synthetika. Will he be returning as a member or a moderator? |

I have spoken to indole this morning,
No, he won't be returning as a mod, until he proves that he is up to the job again,
Time will only tell,
I have ubanned him, now, and all should be ok, if there is any posts that I should know about, in his trial week, then let me know

well, it's just to make him stop talking and start thinking... that's why karma at the hive was so effective. one then would start to think a lot harder about what one was going to say before saying it, with the risk of losing too much karma such that one was muzzled for a day. And if one was a regular contributor of highly valued information, one could get away with more garbage... not sure if that was a good thing or not... If karma were implemented, i would like to see it done without good karma. just a good karma score, if you know what i mean, like how in the military they give you those funny coloured things and badges when you do good. It does not imply rank (that's separately considered, but weighed in when promotions are being considered), but indicates reputation to others. The only thing I would say about such a system is that the rating of posts should be a democratic process, but somewhat weighted in accordance with rank (which is one's good karma score).
The key thing is that, even tho little stars or numbers don't really mean all that much, they do have a powerful motivating effect on people to keep on achieving quality and excellence in their work. Everywhere you look in society there are systems like this, and it is seeking reputation that drives most hackers and crackers in their activities.
just my 2c... I think it would be a nice way to both avoid problems like what just happened, and to increase the motivation for better and better ideas to be put on the board. Avoiding the nepotism and arrogance of the hive would be achieved by giving the power of rating to everyone, and weighted according to their record of positive ratings. |

calculating the weighting ratio to use should be calculated according to the total amount of merit in the entire community, if a higher rated user downrates, but nobody else does, this should reduce the amount of demerit that is awarded.
i dunno, probably a lot of work but maybe a fair way to set it up could be worked out. |
