Hi,

you may already know, and it may be more trouble to fix than it is worth, but the java applet showing recent topics appears to be leaking topic headings from the moderators forum (i.e. some of them appear to be listed in the applet).

At least I think this is what is happening. I can see topics called joe_aldehyde and sandmeyer, but it is impossible to get to the post by clicking on it. I can only assume that these are topic headings from a closed forum to which I have no access. Maybe it is something else though.

You're right with your assumption. Its a thread being not within your reach for "discussion", since it is located in the "staff lounge" forum, to which you have no access, since you are no moderator or admin, and where things like the following are discussed - just for example of course... Evil or Very Mad

Quote:
11. A moderator has a significant problem with one member and wishes that this member be banned from the forum. He posts a message in the appropriate forum (Staff Lounge) explaining the reasons for which he wants the user banned. Other moderators provide their opinions. Decision is reached. If the member is banned a message is send to the offending member explaining the reasons he/she was banned.

If this answers your question.....

Other members will be full of overwhelming thankfulness about this......
Especially since you don't feel distracted by it and are fine with it remaining not fixed..

(whatta nice contradiction in itself!)

I thought I made myself pretty clear last time... If any members here (including users, mods, and admins) have some sort of personal vendetta against each other, then leave that to our PM system. Do NOT clutter not boards with this stuff. I put in a lot of hard work around here getting new features up and online for you guys to use, and I don't want to see my efforts rewarded by watching two members who have problems with each other get into a pissing contest.

... and by the way, Star-light, thank you for alerting me to this problem. I'll look into it and see if I can come up with a fix. I appreciate you conducting yourself in a polite and civil manner in this thread, which is much more than I can say for those posting around you.

Primathon: I do think the original purpose of this thread has some merit. Would it be possible to stop the limited access threads from being displayed on the scrolling marquee? IMO it would be better for everyone if they were not displayed. It could raise problems in the future similar to the current one.

I think a mod should be able to make a post regarding a member. It could be good or bad, but the "normal" users, like myself, could take it out of context. Someone could start a thread titled "hAzzBEEn...", and I get mad and start fighting. Find out later that the thread was about how great hAzzBEEn is.

BTW, can a member block PM's from another member?

Well, I was gonna have it be a light day today, but it looks like I'm going to be busy fixing the java applet, getting an 'ignore users' function in place, trying to cull the flooding of certain people abusing the PM system, and generally trying to fix up the mess that seems to be unfolding under my feet, here.

Oh, and:

High-access topic leaking has been stopped (heh... sounds so mechanical)... You should only see posts in the marquee from the user-access forums.

Now... to let you users ignore each other...

Well, I was out of town all weekend, but I've got pages started for PM and general forum ignore functionality. Hopefully, you'll just be able to click a button and whoever you like (mods and admins excluded) turn invisible.

yes, I am aware of the problem,
and I can see how it is annonying for non-moderators, and admins.

As primathon said, it will be hard to fix, but as we always say, and have done,

Were on it,.

I was just wondering about a printer friendly version, I have these nights where I hear therunthe calling out to me,
"make a printer friendly function"

-Also we must all thank primathon, for he constant coding improvements,
You can see them appear everyday, it is truly a beautiful thing,

You may ask, Why do i give people the respect and reward they deserve, well the answer is that it is something that for some absurd reason the real world just can't manage,

We are commonly repreanded for our mistakes, and our success's often go unnoticed,
That is an evil that we can do without,

Syn

nicely put syn and thus:
hooray for primathon Smile

a printer friendly version would indeed bee nice, so that one can take the writeups in the topics directly to the lab without wasting too much toner!

oh, i don't think anyone pointed this out, but if the applet was leaking moderator threads, it could also be leaking reg-only threads to unregistered users (eg google spiders)

oh, nice quick reply feature, deadly in the wrong hands, haha,

The moderator posts I don't think leak themselves, only the headings, as far as I know.

This should not be a problem, this is not to say, that this shouldn't be checked and fixed,
Thanks Loki, Joe, Indole has been banned for 1 week, where he has the chance to participate again,
I really liked the guy, when he was in a good mood, don't get me wrong,.
It was that this was obviously heading in the wrong direction

Syn

Great quick reply, Primy
