The pale yellow calamus oil that SWIDP obtained a few months ago is starting to loose its smell somewhat. Does this indicate asarone loss? How long have other bees kept their oil before distilling it?
i have heard mentioned things like the "magic" of the cut/dried roots is lost after 6 months... whether this applies to the oil as well, though i have no experience...
Thanks Java!!! It was stored in a box in a cool dark place. SWIDP took it out of this box and that peculiar smell was once again noticeable. SWIDP guesses the box was absorbing most of the odor, but the odor is not as strong anymore. It must have been really fresh when it was obtained.
