With some Büchner funnels there is no corresponding filter paper. What's the deal with that?!?! Evil or Very Mad

It happens so make sure when you buy your buchner funnel that it takes standard size paper, or that they stock the size for that particular funnel. I have has the same problem and had to double layer one for the non-standard size funnel which is a fast filter , then on top a second filter with the requisite filtration for my particular needs....it solved my problem of buying non standard buchner funnels........java

Yeah... I should of checked for the filter paper first, but I got a sweet deal on these on an auction site from someone that didn't know what they where. Laughing Smile For example... one of the funnels is a 50mm and I wasn't able to find 5cm filter paper anywhere. All I see is 5.5cm. I have this same issue with some of the funnels that are much larger. I do have filter paper for most of them though. I guess I'll just cut some of the other filter papers to fit these.

Scissors work well and the large sheets of paper are much cheaper than buying boxes of 100 circles which can't be made bigger. Very Happy Laughing

Icecool, you can buy filter paper in art material shops. They sell large 70 grams sheets (46 x 57 cm).

Of course all the lab suppliers have large sheets of all types but if for whatever reason you don't want to use them try the fabric stores (department). They sell this stuff called "interfacing" by the meter on large rolls. It's the white , "usually nonwoven", lining fabric available in all different materials and thickness. You probably want the cellulose stuff (Rayon) without the binders or iron on adhesive side. Binders will wash out if there's no choice. By ironing a couple layers together the porosity can be adjusted.

Vitriodor, I did not know that art shops had it. Cool, next trip to the big city will have to check them out. Is it micron rated stuff or some type of "construction" type paper??

Blotting paper doubled over makes for good fine filter paper.
