I see no reason why phenylpropanolamine can't be made instead of ephedrine , as the reductive amination will be with a source of -NH3, as opposed to - NH2CH3 for ephedrine.........java

Yes. It was suggested that an Al/Hg with ammonia, under pressure, would do the trick, nicely. SWIh had planned to try the ephedrine synth first because no pressure required. He/she thought that a nitromethane Al/Hg would suffice. SWIh will need to verify that L-PAC has actually been made first. The experimentation is beginning for SWIh, but it will be a lengthy process. SWIh doesn't get in a hurry, and starts simple.

When there is actually something to report, it will be here. Advice is still wanted and needed. Especially from those that have attempted/seriously studied this. PM's are fine. SWIh's PM's have been ignored by many, indicating to him/her that some experimentation is needed to get any attention, so this will be the new method of attack.
