Here's a trick for a dead harddrive. Put it in the freezer for sometime, then upon taking it out, immediately try to boot it up. Its a well-known techie trick, and no I'm not blowing smoke up your ass. Do a search on the net for it.

Hope this helps!

I knew that worked for floppys but I've never tried it with a harddrive. Remember to wrap it in a plastic bag first. Smile

I knew somebody who's laptop hard drive crapped out. They bagged the whole thing and stuck it in the freezer - to my amazement this revived their hard drive long enough to get their important data off before it crapped back out again. I don't understand HOW this works but apparently it does in some cases.. Didnt work for me though with a standard PC hard drive.. think it depends on exactly what went wrong. In my case the drive sounded like a jet landing for a little while before it suddenly went silent..

do not put ur hd in the freezer-
not even in the fridge.
that nfo is definitely close to
the biggest bullshit ive ever heard.
try to get hands on a bootdisk
and access it from dos modus.
u need to copy files into 8.3 but
being able to handle a commandline
will save ur pity ass loads of work.
i could backup some data off a
ibm-dtla
(yes the one ibm substituted
in a global callback with new drives)
that i wasnt able to access from windows.
it was a physical damage.
i was able to hear the head scratching
on the surface when i tried to access
certain partititions-
a sound to make u feel so helpless
as u never were before
also theres file recovery appz out there
that work better than u expect em to.
pm me what u need though

ezeK: If the drive has mechanically stopped working, no boot disk or recovery program will help. Tellin ya, the freezer thing works in some cases.

Hard drive works after all....

Sat Jul 16, 2005 8:49 pm
So I thought it was broken, but it wasn't. Dumb on my part... I had the jumper set to master and not just single after taking out another drive. I should have known in the first place but, oh well...

So, due to my temporary losses and understand what it's like, if anyone wants to eat my bandwidth and download some e.books off me, PM me.

edit: back to studying!

Dont be so worried about hd failure. Most of the time is not the physical disk that has broken, but the logic board on the drive.

These can be easily replaced.
