Here is an interesting article where N-phenylalanine can be substituted on route to phenylacetone (P2P) or can be decarboxylated to amph then go further with a methylation to ----, I found it interesting perhaps it has been mentioned but it's new to me so I share...........java

Abstract

a-MethylDOPA has been degraded in high yield by several pathways to derivatives of 3,4dihydroxyphenyl-
acetone. These degradations comprise recycle routes for the utilization of D-( +)-a-methylDOPA in the synthesis
of L-( - )-a-methylDOPA.

Dingo...brought to the attention that this topic has been discussed before at the HIve , and some of the relevant info is posted in Rhodium's Archive....
