hi
i've thought of a way to produce a cocain-like dopamine uptake inhibitor from the antidepressant citalopram.
the hydrophilic cyano-substituent of citalopram isn't able to interact with the lipophilic phenylalanin-site within the dopamine-transporter, so the whole molecule remains inactive here.
so how could this cyano be removed or alternately be replaced by a halogen in order to get a hydrophobic moiety and allow it to play with the dopamine-transporter, any ideas?
