Dueterium substituted amphetamine

I was just wondering if Dueterium substituted amphetamine was legal in the UK/US?
Halogenated substitutions fall under phenylethylamine analog section of the misuse of drugs act here in the UK.TIA. |

| besides the fact that it's damn expensive to make it, it's illegal since it's an analogue... |

Interesting question...in countries with an analogue act the deuterated compound will be as illegal as the non-deuterated form, but what about countries with only a specific list of compounds and derivatives thereof. For what I know, deuterated compounds are not included ?! At least not in my country...but I could be wrong.
Besides, not all hydrogen will be exchanged with the same speed; an equilibrium for every hydrogen will lead to a mixed product.
And how easy is it to buy a bottle of deuterium gas? |

Rh, you can't just exchange H with D by hydrogenation...go read a book and there still is a difference between a partially and a completely deuterated amphetamine...analogue laws apply in both cases, though. |

| Besides which, due to the altered molecular weight and less reactivity of deuterium as compared to hydrogen, there's no telling what the effect would be. Drink enough heavy water, and you'll die. The body needs hydrogen's reactivity in order to function properly. My guess would be that deuterated amphetamines will not have the same level of activity ad their hydrogenated counterparts, although it would be hard to ingest enough deuterium from it to cause Du toxicity, unless you're a real feind. |
