swim is no longer spending days cutting matchbooks before passing out. he has decided h3po3 reactions from here on out.

swim wants to do the h3po3 as best to his ability, he has got some 46% foliar spray that contains mono- and di- potassium salts of phosphorous acid).

now his mentors have told him to add = amounts of HCL with the solution and on LOW heat, evap until the potassium salts precipitate out, after that i assume swim would just filter the salt out and then evap to get the phosphorous acid flakes.

hes wondering, since hes not using lab grade, what kind of ratios he should use....

2/1.5/1/1 h3po3/i2/e/dh2o ?

the reason i think this would be best is because swim is sure that the h3po3 wont be labgrade and some may be degraded, so he wants to be sure to cover all the bases to fully reduce the pseudo. he thinks that the iodine ratio is important also, 1.5 will be enough to get all the h3po3 and not to much to hurt the reaction or kill yields...

so he would slowly heat it up in sand bath to 87C and watch the HI form, let it go for about 10-15 minutes, then take off heat and add the pseudo, return to heat, and bring up to 170C (sand bath temp). and cook for 4.5 hours (is this a good time?)

Working with Hypo it soon became obvious
that the ratios used were not the best possible.
40 mls of 90% hypo
40 grams of E
40 grams of I2

works well enough with no problems
However
32 mls of 90% hypo
40 grams of E
38 grams of I2

Also kicked off slick as a whistle
Has anyone pushed the limits on this to determine ,
How little hypo is actually needed for each gram of E

If this could be reduced to a 50/100 ratio
that would mean twice as much could be made
from the same amount of hypo.

To take it a step further The larger the batch ,
the less hypo seemed to be needed ,
Such that, potentially a ratio for over 4 oz of E,
might require only 25% of the current amounts of hypo
