sciencemadness: bandwidth limit exceeded

Well, I was afraid we were going to run over our quota, and we did. About a third of last month's bandwidth was used serving PDF files and images from the "scipics" directory. Since BromicAcid is now hosting all PDFs and I have automatically reduced the size of some of the larger pictures (I bet CycloKnight's benzaldehyde pictures really sucked up the bytes), next month should go a little better. We'll probably be able to slip under the bandwidth limit. I was afraid that I would have to pay for bandwidth overages this month, but it looks like we'll just have to endure a couple of days without service.

Even with the PDF and image burden reduced, it looks like the main problem is that sciencemadness is much, much more popular than when it started. In the beginning I couldn't picture going over my nice fat 10 GB allocation, but last month we had 9.7 GB of bandwidth used by month's end. This month we would have hit 11, if service weren't cut off past 10. I'm glad that February is a short month. If we keep growing much longer, though, I will be forced to upgrade my hosting, and I don't have a lot of spare cash to do so.

This is an announcement but also a plea: Synthetikal, become so interesting and busy that people obsessively refresh your forum index instead of mine Embarassed
