The Chemical Thesaurus uses a relational database to store information about chemical reactions. The database is able to deal with any "chemical reaction process", including: phase change, resonance structure interconversion, interchanging conformation, single electron transfer, complexation, substitution/displacement/transfer (which are mechanistically equivalent), redox reactions, photochemistry, rearrangements, multi-step mechanisms, synthetic pathways, simple (non-feedback controlled) biosynthetic pathways, etc., etc., etc.

The application software is extensively hyper-linked so that it acts as a point-and-click chemical thesaurus. As a user, you are invited to click around, explore and discover!

As it is not possible to add all chemistry to any one database, the decision has been made to fill the The Chemical Thesaurus with as much 'fundamental' chemistry as possible. It is hoped that the database will soon contain all of the reaction chemistry knowledge that a chemistry major could be expected to be familiar, specialist modules excepted.

The present free version is close to comprehensive with respect to: isotopes and major decay pathways, the periodic table, atomic ions, fundamental main group chemistry and fundamental organic chemistry expressed in terms of generic reactions. There are 31 reactions of the hydride ion and over 500 for water. No other database gives access to this type of information. The database has some, but not many, references to the primary literature. This is because the input data is mainly textbook level. This should be seen as a strength, not a weakness.

K.R. Cousins reviewed version 2.0 of the software for the Journal of the American Chemistry Society (JACS 123, 35, pp 8645-6 (2001). He starts:

"The Chemical Thesaurus is a reaction chemistry information system that extends traditional references by providing hyperlinks between related information. This program goes a long way toward meeting its ambitious goal of creating a nonlinear reference for reaction information. With its built-in connections, organizing themes, and multiple ways to sort and view data, The Chemical Thesaurus is much greater than the sum of the data in its database. The program does an excellent job of removing the artificial barriers between different subdisciplinary areas of chemistry by presenting a unified vision of inorganic and organic reaction chemistry."

3000 chemical species

113 elements

2500 isotopes

Organic Chemistry (2000)
Jonathan Clayden, Nick Greeves, Stuart Warren, and Peter Wothers

Multipart archive -- download both parts, place in the same directory and extract (with Winrar, for instance)

EDIT: Files are re-uploaded and split between rapidshare/ripway. This should solve the problem with rapidshare not allowing multiple files.
If ripway bandwidth is exhausted, then try again in 24 hours (which should not be likely due to the small size of the file hosted there.)

Part 1 -->http://rapidshare.de/files/2782731/Clayden_J._Organic_chemistry__Oxford__2000__ISBN_0198503466__1392s_.pdf.html(28.6Mb)
Part 2 --> http://home.ripway.com/2005-3/280752/Clayden.n2.rar (343Kb)

Description
Carefully developed, extensively market reviewed core textbook for undergraduate organic chemistry courses
Emphasis is on understanding rather than learning facts
Emphasis on mechanism, orbitals, and stereochemistry means that the student emerges with solid understanding of important factors common to all reactions, allowing interpretation/prediction of reactions not previously met
Organic chemistry emerges as a coherent whole, with numerous logical connections and consequences, and with an underlying structure and language
The teaching of organic chemistry continues to move away from starting with the traditional and increasingly old-fashioned 'alkanes, alkenes, alkynes' to carbonyl chemistry
Direct, personal, student-friendly writing style
Innovative design to aid comprehension: four types of box to seperate material from main text; colours of structures and reaction schemes; end of chapter problems

Organic Chemistry:Part A
Structure and Mechanism

Carey & Saundberg

http://rapidshare.de/files/1121264/Adv_Org_chem_by_carey-sundberg_book_A_.djvu

About this book

Since its original appearance in 1977, Advanced Organic Chemistry has found wide use as a text providing broad coverage of the structure, reactivity and synthesis of organic compounds. The Fourth Edition provides updated material but continues the essential elements of the previous edition. The material in Part A is organized on the basis of fundamental structural topics such as structure, stereochemistry, conformation and aromaticity and basic mechanistic types, including nucleophilic substitution, addition reactions, carbonyl chemistry, aromatic substitution and free radical reactions. The material in Part B is organized on the basis of reaction type with emphasis on reactions of importance in laboratory synthesis. As in the earlier editions, the text contains extensive references to both the primary and review literature and provides examples of data and reactions that illustrate and document the generalizations. While the text assumes completion of an introductory course in organic chemistry, it reviews the fundamental concepts for each topic that is discussed.
The Fourth Edition updates certain topics that have advanced rapidly in the decade since the Third Edition was published, including computational chemistry, structural manifestations of aromaticity, enantioselective reactions and lanthanide catalysis.
The two parts stand alone, although there is considerable cross-referencing. Part A emphasizes quantitative and qualitative description of structural effects on reactivity and mechanism. Part B emphasizes the most general and useful synthetic reactions. The focus is on the core of organic chemistry, but the information provided forms the foundation for future study and research in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, biological chemistry and physical properties of organic compounds.

Organic Chemistry: Part B reactions and Synthesis
Carey & Saundberg

http://rapidshare.de/files/2783065/Adv_Org_chem_by_carey-sundberg_ebook___book_B_.djvu.html

About this book

The control of reactivity to achieve specific syntheses is one of the overarching goals of organic chemistry. In the decade since the publication of the third edition, major advances have been made in the development of efficient new methods, particularly catalytic processes, and in means for control of reaction stereochemistry.
This volume assumes a level of familiarity with structural and mechanistic concepts comparable to that in the companion volume, Part A, Structures and Mechanisms. Together, the two volumes are intended to provide the advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate student in chemistry with a sufficient foundation to comprehend and use the research literature in organic chemistry.

Organic Chemistry
John E. McMurry

http://12.162.180.114:90/Organic/McMurry%20-%20Organic%20Chemistry%205th%20edition.pdf
About the Book
John McMurry's international best-seller is widely and consistently praised as the most clearly written book on the market. Why? In John McMurry's words: 'I have been asked hundreds of times over the past ten years why I wrote this book. I wrote this book because I love writing. I get great pleasure and satisfaction from taking a complicated subject, turning it around until I see it clearly from a new angle, and then explaining it in simple words. I write to explain chemistry to students the way I wish it had been explained to me years ago.' Through his lucid writing and ability to show the beauty and logic of organic chemistry, McMurry makes learning enjoyable for students. The highest compliment that can be given to a chemistry book applies to McMurry: It works! Mainstream in level, McMurry's coverage is concise yet doesn't omit any key topics. McMurry blends the traditional functional-group approach with a mechanistic approach. The primary approach, by functional group, begins with the simple and progresses to the more complex so that readers who are not yet versed in the subtleties of mechanisms are first exposed to the 'what' of chemistry before beginning to grapple with the 'why.' Within this primary organization, the author places a heavy emphasis on explaining the fundamental mechanistic similarities. In this edition, McMurry retains his standard-setting features (including his innovative vertical format for explaining reaction mechanisms) while revising his text line-by-line to include hundreds of small but important improvements. For example, the Sixth Edition includes new examples, additional steps in existing examples, new problems, new phrases to clarify the exposition, and a vibrant new art program. In addition, new icons in the text lead students to a variety of new online resources. McMurry's text is in use at hundreds of colleges and universities around the world, from North America, to the United Kingdom and the Pacific Rim
