Hey folks. I figured I'd see if I can't stirr up some shop talk and get some ideas.

Like many of you I'm sure, someone I know has got a bit of a compulsion for purchasing glassware and have accumulated a modest collection of stuff. A significant investment considering their currently modest means.

A little bit of everything from cheapish homemade stuff to off-brand to good old ACE and whatnot - no Schott though Sad

Included is a couple largish sep funnels, several large flasks, condensors and fractionating columns.

My query is as to how all you store your precious equipment?
The person earlier noted currently keeps his in an assortment of Rubbermaid totes, cardboard boxes and a steamer trunk, packed mostly with that 3cm bubble-size bubblewrap and some styrofoam peanuts.

I've been pondering on how he could organize and better pack it.

The best idea I think is Hardigg style cases with foam-in-place packing. The trouble is those cases are mucho expensive and we don't own or have access to a FIP system, and he's certianly not going to drag it all into Mail Boxes Etcetera... heh
They sell expanding foam for use in boats and fiberglass work but even that is expensive compared to FIP.

Anyone care to toss some ideas or criticism into the fray?

If stealthiness was not an issue in swims case hed love to display all of his glass on the wall with good strong clamps. you could possibly save money on the expanding foam by making long boxes with wood about 1 foot by 5 feet and placing all the glass closly together, this should save on the amount of expanding foam you will have to buy.. i guess... good luck Very Happy

........ we don't own or have access to a FIP system,......

The 2 part FIP polyurethane with a short hose and 2 cans is available around here near the paint and adhesives. A little pricey but should be easy provided the lid isn't closed after adding a little too much. Shocked Laughing .

Play around with it a little maybe as this stuff expands fast exerting lots of force.
