Unsuitability of aluminum cans

SWIM reports that Al from commercial soda cans is unsuitable for amalgamation. There is much iron and other debris that retards amalgamation and forms a black coating that turns red over time.

Yes this is true. Thick aluminium foil is preferred. This is covered at Rhodium's Archive.
