FDA approves MDMA for ptsd of Iraq vets
« on: August 17, 2010, 10:11:55 PM »
http://www.examiner.com/life-coach-in-denver/fda-approves-ecstasy-new-treatment-of-iraq-war-veterans-with-resistant-ptsd-encouraging-results-1

Saw this on another site and thought folks here would be happy.  This is all about bucks - govt has thousands of vets with ptsd and doesn't want to pay disability pensions to them all.  So voila the only real treatment for ptsd is now available!  This is how the war on drugs will be won - via the $$

Impressive stuff. Had to check a few times if it wasnt April Fool's day. Is the main source a blog entry or is there an actual FDA report somewhere ?

This is great news assuming it turns out to be true however the FDA has no say in what goes to clinical trials at this point because the DEA has scheduled it as list 1 meaning no trials and experiments concerning this compound are to be made.

I will like to see more sources for this story please.
There once were some bees and you took all there stuff!

you don't need fda/dea approval to test drugs on soldiers (government issue) government property.
they got one thing right

***This therapy may allow the brain to “re-boot” and have a fresh start in a way that no  current treatment or medication can do. Let’s keep a positive mind set  that this new trial will bring much welcomed relief to our suffering veterans. It is the most hopeful sign of something new and of  progress for PTSD in a very long time***

i noticed if i took mdma when i was depressed it did exactly that, it rebooted my brain.

http://www.maps.org/mdma/ptsdpaper.pdf

Well I have ptsd so it is of great interest to me.  It looks like the publishing of this article is what prompted the blog post.  From the MAPS site they still have to get DEA approval.  Lots of hoops to jump through, but I have been waiting for the results of this since they said they were doing the study.

Sedit - check out http://www.maps.org/mdma/ under breaking news, they have been doing trials for a while now.  You got to hand it to the folks behind MAPS they have jumped through more hoops and red tape than you can imagine.

I believe mdma could be of great benefit to people with autism and aspergers.  An informal survey of the net found a lot of people with autism and aspergers who had tried mdma and found it helped them with their social problems.  Autism/Aspergers is linked to deficiencies in Oxytocin genes among other things which MDMA promotes massive release of.

I think this is fucking brilliant, shame it took money and desperate but deserving people to force The Man into shutting the fuck up.

As for aspies, I am not entirely convinced it would be any sort of fix, I am autistic, and whilst MDMA increases the ability to tolerate social-stuff that would otherwise be unwanted, and to increase the desire for the wanted kind, it is temporary, and the lack of desire for it is not psychological, so 'working on it' I doubt will 'help'

Revelations aren't going to 'fix' neurological wiring. And of course one cannot go around strung out on MDMA 24/7.

Although it might be useful for some, for others it isn't going to be, and some will absolutely hate it, I don't quite hate it, but the loved-upness feels so forced and false if done with general friends or with aqquaintances.

I will only take MDxx or their cathinone derivatives either alone, or with a woman I am intimately close to.

Another thing is, that quite a few autistic people, and I believe it applies more to those with autism per se rather than asperger's , many do not WISH  to have an instinct for socialising,  I have a stalker kinda chick I met through an autism forum, who is, I think she would describe, of herself, LFA, and apparently aside from her kids, who she really does care for, she hadn't talked to anybody for 10 years, until we became friends, absolutely amazing woman, intellectual, smart as hell, and brutally honest, but she doesn't seek companionship usually, and would very likely be quite disgusted to have to waste the effort  required to tell somebody to go fuck themselves if they suggested to her she be 'fixed'

I am pretty much the same way there, other people might see it as a problem, I do not, I am quite happy not having to constantly validate myself  based upon trends, and shallow  but wide social circles, and measure up to the mindless, base and vile cult of celebrity and sport stars, etc.

MDxx might well help gain some new outlooks, but they will still be recieved through the screen of an autistic mindset IMHO, and while the insights will probably persist, the actual empathogenic changed do not, I can say from experience.

From what I have read, I doubt MDMA is going to make you want to do superficial social chit chat.  My husband is AS and like you not into small talk.  I'm very like that myself.  I'd rather talk with people online than in person and don't make freinds easily.  Brutally honest does describe my partner.  Made for some rough times til I figured out Autism.  We talk chemistry and other weird topics around here.  We're a bit like the Adams family.

Revelations may not "fix" neurological wiring, but they can help deal with the effects of not being diagnosed for 50+ years and the fear/anxiety being blind sided by people can cause.  At least that is my understanding of it.  People with Autism/AS have been the odd ball out and target in many cases throughout their lives.   I don't think I would have been able to connect with xBee if he hadn't changed as a result of taking MDMA and losing some of his defensiveness.

Hell yes, why didn't I think of that? I put it down to lack of sleep due to neurological nastiness coupled with mild opiate w/d, but yes, especially in older auties/aspies, who when younger went unrecognised or worse, judged as mentally deficient, and not worth bothering about. thats going to take its toll on people, and in some cases I bet, cause PTSD.
