Calling all gamers.
« on: August 18, 2010, 03:09:17 AM »
I have been thinking about renting an online server to host Battlefield 2 type games. Do we have any interested gamers here, up for making a squad willing to take on all comers? We need a few good men with hearts of gold, stomachs of iron, and eyes of jelly, to take it to these mooslems on such fields as The road to Jalabad. The game is actually quite fun and you can have very realistic battles with other squads...Anyway, if anyone is interested, sign up and if we get enough people I will get the server and we can start kicking some collective ass as team Vespiary....

Would everyone be happy with Battlefield 2? Or would there be other choices? Servers could have 'teamspeak or ventrillo' voice server enabled if wanted.

Games available;

Americas Army
Battle field ; all the battlefield titles are available
Call of duty
Call of duty 2
Call of duty 4
Call of duty world at war

Bad Company 2 is probably the  best 50€ I spent in my life!

Unbelievably realistic and playable game, but you need to have beast of the PC to enjoy it!
Only and biggest minus is weapon damage level, differen guns in the same caliber have vastly different strenght
for example MG-3 in .308 is weaker than M60 in the same calliber and most gunns in sissy .223 or even 9mm, c'mon!!! :P
Other minus is pawn time (because of medic) but this isn't problem
if you have a good team (that won't happen in 99,9% of time!)

Welcome to my lab,
where you can choose your own dreams!

I'm an avid BF2 player, but haven't played in a month or two.  My handle is Douchermann, as you should have expected. Let me know if this idea takes off... perhaps I'd invest in BC2 if it's the chosen game.

OK, so I got 4 names. That makes five of us so far;

QD
Happyman
Doucherman
Oerlikon

It would be awesome if more people could join us, ideally we would want 10 to 15 in the Wasp Nest!

I have got Battlefield; Bad Company 2, and a 32 slot server.

I was also an avid BF2 player, and think it would have to be the best online game I have ever played. Bad Company is somewhat disappointing when you actually play it and compare directly (expectations). Yeah the graphics are unbelievably realistic, the game is awesome but it is lacking a couple of things I loved about BF2. Like being able to hit the dirt, and lay down and fire and you can only crouch in this one making you a much bigger target. I did find in BF2 online you would shoot someone four times (get the little cross pop up) then he would shoot you once and you were dead (frustrating). But that has changed and it seems much better in that respect.....

I am still practicing as I suck atm, but if we could get the people interested together. You just need Bad Company 2, a computer that runs it and a decent internet connection. We can select which map you want me to load on the server and what type of match and then lock it off to the public and practice as a squad. Then open it up for challengers also there are many tournaments we can enter if we get that good, even open it up to the public then 'squad up' and practice some more on them ;D ....

ATM I am really enjoying (infantry only), it is less hectic and seems more like realistic warfare anyway. Let me know whats happening or even if you want the name of the server I have rented, but is constantly at 0/32 atm.

cool i spend ALL of my time studying

for your compound a freeze dried strip (i ca'nt remember the name of the carohydrate hypomellose?) containing the goods would be perfect.
i'm about to catch some zzz's
my mother wants to pawn me off to a psychward.
or worse, everbody says she's so nice,  a sociopath usually presents as overly nice.
watch out for the man who smiles too much.

i'll give it a hoot.

Sorry, I get ahead of myself a lot, but we are going to need a clan tag. Though it has nothing to do with Honey, 2 High 2 Die is a pretty clever one.  :D

Awesome!

That is now 7, which is enough to start training. Does everyone above already have the game?

If so which level are people liking and wanting loaded? Panama Canal conquest?

I will also enable Teamspeak or Ventrillo (any preferences?)

Also, what is a Steam account? We do not have that down here, do you play multiplayer mode through the Steam servers? Or just buy the game through there, then play on the same servers as everybody else ??? Anyway, if we can all get the game or at least get a list of who has it and who does not yet, then meet up at my server (or a prearranged server) and we can get started.

A clan tag, hmmm.

Not bad! I like it, but we will have to all vote together on it. Also I think the commander should be voted on, after we have started training. As then we can see who can cut the mustard (so to speak). Looking forward to this!

You don't have to buy it through Steam. I don't have it connected to Steam in any way shape or form, which is somewhat unfortunate because the EA friends contraption is kind of shitty, or at least was when the game first came out. You should be able to add it to Steam if you wanted to. I would suggest a rotation. All the maps are pretty cool. We would have to take a vote for this as well, but you want it in "Rush" mode. The "Squad" modes are pretty cool too but I have not played that many of them.

I did not want a Steam account, but wanted to make sure we are all on the same page (or server) so to speak. Even those with Steam accounts. And I agree after some serious playing of the game, it is a pretty cool game! It would have to be the best online game I have ever played, I was suggesting conquest as that is in the spirit of BF2 moreso than the onslaught or squad deathmatch's, but rush is fine also. Some of the better levels I have found so far are Laguna Alta and Panama Canal.

I have to agree there, it is a great game but cost me $89.95 down here!

Also agreed, I have been running it on a new intel i7 quad core the i7 has turbo boost and hyper threading. It has 8gb of RAM and 1gb Nvidia video card! It runs to a 24" inch LCD, the i7 is not brand new but is still considered high end. And if you turn all the video settings up to full, for example antialiasing to full and everything else @ 1920- 1080. It looks amazing! I really cannot stress how lifelike it is, the people while playing look real (nearly movie quality) the shadows, details and overall quality is amazing. But the game does not run smoothly even with the rig above at those settings. If for example you get a dust storm, while helicopters and other memory intensive things are around it slows down to slow motion with slow choppy movement(unplayable). My point is if you wanted to play the game with such great graphics with all the video settings turned to full, you will be needing a better system than above (particularly the graphics card). I run the game at lower settings and it is flawless, the quality is still classified 'high' in the ingame menu and the graphics and quality breath taking but the quality is still not as high as it could be. I was very disappointed as I have a setup ready for Nvidia 3D vision, I went to buy my shutterglasses pack and realized the massive monitor that was meant to be the 'be all, and end all of all LCD displays' did not support 120hz :(

Anyone played this game in 3D?
