4-MMC via Friedel Craft of Toluence and Chloroacetone
« on: October 19, 2010, 12:26:23 AM »
I was doing some reading on benzaldehyde synthesis and stumbled onto the P-2-P synthesis via friedel craft with benzene.  I did some quick research and it appears if that benzene had a methyl group attached the friedel craft would show affinity for the 4 position primarily.  If this were so I would think one could go through the simple steps of turning 1-methyl P2P into 4-MMC very simply.

This is but an idea at this point, what do you guys think?

What is your plan to produce the methcathinone from the P2P?

perhaps with propanoyl chloride and toluene, but you will also get substitution at the 2 and 6 positions.  I'd also like to know how you're going to go from 4-MP2P to 4-MMC.  The ketone is at the wrong position in 4-MP2P.  You want 4-MP1P.  PrOCl + Toulene should do the trick.

Im not a huge fan of doing this but there was very little research done before starting this topic and much more needed before this discussion can continue so I am sending this to the trash bin for now in hopes that the thread starter will do a little more research and try again.
There once were some bees and you took all there stuff!

I agree - it seems like a topic that has a lot of potential if more thought and references were put into it.
