H2SO4/DCM solubility
« on: April 02, 2009, 10:41:28 PM »
I know DCM is slightly soluable in water. How about H2SO4? I tried searching and no results. I think H2SO4 might be REALLY soluable in DCM, but I'm just not sure.

Thanks in advance.

This might be helpful as it talks about HNO3, DCM, and H2SO4 mixtures.

I am moving this thread into the begging chemistry section.

I think I figured it out after pondering for some time. My post explains a bit. It's weird because H2SO4 is denser than water and DCM but is miscible with water. DCM is also slightly soluable in water. As for H2SO4...well, I'm not exactly sure even though I think it *might* be a tad soluable in water to say the least, but considering the fact DCM is competing with the water for solubility little gets into the DCM phase.

That was such a headache. Glad that's over.  :P
