...so, I was in a paint store today, in Pennsylvania.

Now, I'm not gonna say which paint store but it rhymes with Perkin Smiliams.

The thing is I have bought toluene from this place before. $20 a gallon. I use it to reduce stuff on paint jobs and such...obviously.

I picked some up a month ago. I called a few times when I did to check if they had it...

"Yes, we have it. Come on down and pick it up."

They told me this about three times on several different occasions. No problems, no questions.

I eventually went down, picked it up, done. End of story.

Some bastard took or either I misplaced my toluene recently so I had to pick some more up. I went down today with my brother and man...was I in for a surprise.

Immediately some brainless middle-aged bitch starts asking me a battery of questions why, what, who, ect...about the toluene.

"I picked it up before"

"Do you have a business account?"

"...no. I didn't need one last time."

I was in that store for about 20 minutes total. Apparently after I asked her upon walking in she went to the back room for some time and then came out with all the questions. She said I "need a business account to buy it"...the whole time she wouldn't say why. She only said the word "regulated" once and kept looking away from me and being very dismissive. Eventually she returned to the back room and out came a male this time.

This dude did the same thing. Asked and I replied.

"I bought it last time no problems."

"He wasn't supposed to sell you that."

...long story short he said unless I have a business account I can't buy it because, and I quote:

"Yeah, it's um...how do I say this...used to make bad things."

"That's ridiculous..."

"Yeah, well..."

...I left in a rage. I was right about to bring up the threshold limits on his ass saying "You know the threshold limit is like 55 fucking gallons!" ...but I didn't. I wasn't prepared for this.  He said it was "Pennsylvania state law"...I looked up the laws on this later and COULD NOT FIND A SINGLE THING about PA state law.

I think they lied to me. I sent an email to the company asking them if this was true. I find it hard to believe that in the multiple times I've called them asking if they had it everytime they never asked if I had a business account and when I show up I got it no problems. This was in between a month's time so there's no way some bogus law went into action.

I'm seriously pissed. I picked up some goo remover shit from a hardware store and isolated the toluene. I was able to extract ~200-300ml toluene for about $4.

Eh, whatever.

I know how you feel. My one friend was trying to buy lye today at walmart and they started eating him alive with questions. I'm not from the area so I only stopped in just for the toluene since it's pretty dry and cheap.

Maybe I'll give them a call sometime soon and give bitch at them.

On the subject of bullshit policies...I think it's really over the top how all the good, interesting OTC chems. never list the ingredients on them.

If it has skull and cross-bones on it and is bottled in plastic bag. You should probably take a peek at it.

Maybe I'm just unlucky(probably the case) and everything I want doesn't indicate what's in it.

Example: I was at a Home Depot today and saw the standards in the plumbing section: H2SO4, NaOH, KOH, CuSO4, HCl,ect...then I saw this black bottle...damn did it look interesting.

It was sealed in like 2 plastic wraps. I can't remember the name but I couldn't find an ingredient list on it. If I had to guess I think it's nitric acid of some unknown concentration.

I've never actually seen fairly pure nitric OTC. I saw a solution of some some time ago, but that was just that once.

Thats the way my sulfuric comes. Its in a black bottle double wraped in plastic.

That sounds like a horrible way to go about it. I'd just get someone else to buy them. Where I live I don't think their are any laws like that and they can easily refuse to sell you something, and I think the store might recommend it when situations like this happen.

well if they are that tight assed just come back in with a ski mask and a shotgun and scare the shit outta them should be good for a chuckle or two.

Hey! I've been shopping around for one since...birth.  Never seems like I can budget it, give me a decent offer and I'll consider it(still won't get it).

going back on topic, swim has been called out buying HCl from a hardware store before.  was dressed in work clothes (button up, khakis, looking nice) and a bitch that worked there had the nerve to scream across the store to the cashier checking swim out, she screamed "that's a meth product!", what a fucking lunatic.  swim got his fucking HCl anyway and they left it at that.  yeah swim was going to use it for a cacti a/b but actually did use the remaining amount for etching concrete, no lie!

How did you react when the lady yelled that?  Curiously surprised?  Offended?  Annoyed at the inconvenience?

Don't know if I would say this but a quick and easy rhetort would be:
"Oh i'm sorry, I didn't realize this was Meth Lab Depot.  Do you sell any non meth lab products?"
