melatonin triggering puberty.. all over again!?
« on: March 09, 2011, 06:35:29 AM »
So for the past 3 or so months i had been taking anywhere from 10 to 25mg of melatonin to help me sleep.
Well i stopped taking it for about a month recently and my usual small appetite started dramatically increasing,
then i started getting leg cramps and muscle aches... Just these past 2 weeks i started breaking out and have gotten a bit taller.
I feel hungry all damn day, so I eat a bunch and I have put on a little weight but no where near what i would expect for the amount of caloric and fat intake. Not to mention i my sex drive being increased. This is weird it's like puberty all over again.
I do know melatonin plays a role in triggering puberty but is it even possible it has triggered it again for me? :o

Melatonin is often used by bodybuilders because it helps induce growth hormone production..   perhaps that has something to do with it?

I took melatonin and when i stopped i did have body aches.

Someone once told me taking half of one melatonin tablet knocks him right out.  I took one and it didn't do anything.  The next night I took two.  The following night I took six, just to see if it would do anything at all to me, good or bad.  I maybe slept a little longer than usual.

I think it's one of those things like B vitamins that mostly helps if you have some sort of deficiency to begin with.  Maybe you hadn't been sleeping properly before, and now that you are your body is producing a more normal level of hormones to which your body has yet to adjust.

I know proper levels of sleep increase testosterone, while to little sleep decreases it.

I took this before and noticed absolutely nothing - including decreased doses, increased doses, and taken at different times or oral vs sublingual. Seems like a pretty worthless supplement as far as I can tell.

I have to take at least 10mg to get any effect, at that dose it doesn't make me sleepy i just find i can fall asleep more quickly about 15? minutes compared to 1+ hours. I also notice if i get up into the 30mg range i get this odd head space where it feels like my head is a spacious room where i can casually stroll through my thoughts and im wide awake so long as i keep my eyes open but if i close them for a second i could easily fall asleep in a minute or two.
