You have to remember the internet was a completely different place back then with no standards to go off of and in its essence no cops watching everyone. It seemed prudent to allow some deny-ability to each statement just in case future events meant it was needed. In the end it never made a damn bit of difference since not a single internet post has ever been brought up in a trial of this nature to the best of my knowledge.

They tracked you thru you IP number and other online indications and found out who you where. Your use of swim more then likely directed them more then it swayed them away.
