The govt and society doesn't push the idea of personal responsibility. The reason MSDS's are a joke and not useful tools is because they have to cover every stupidity rather than expecting the person to think for themselves.
You ain't in Kansas kiddo.
You expect people who make illegal drugs for fun and/or profit to give a damn what happens to the people who come after them? What you gonna do, Sue em?? You read anything about the mexican drug war and the heads chopped off? Bet there's people on here you never see or hear from who are part of that.
If the alchemist is kind enough to share his secrets what makes you think you have the right to demand safety instructions as well? You ever wonder how many don't get shared simply because they would be dangerous to the novice?
Why would anyone want to share their hard earned knowledge if you aren't willing to take responsibility for your own safety?
Beware the assumptions of modern society - this is a different world.

I seem to recall that sodium hydroxide and nitromethane are particularly dangerous in the presence of methanol, which helps "solubilize" them or whatever the word is.
So RC fuel plus lye might not be a good idea.

Lewisite is the correct answer. Although if I remember, I may be mistaken, one of the fluorophosphorus nerve agents might share this geranium smell.

Not lewisite, I would hope, I shall take the description of the geranium smell at face value, personally

Haha, I wondered if that description was from personal experience.

Bugger that!
I have on occasion, handled some rather viciously toxic chemicals, white phos, thionyl chloride, chromyl chloride, but there are lines I won't cross, and things I am prepared to have no truck with it. Arsenical blister agents are one of them, nerve agents another, most organic peroxides (with a handful of the more stable ones, such as benzoyl peroxide, or ascaridole excluded) and about as bad as they come, organomercury alkyl derivatives.
I would have to be really, really REALLY fucking PISSED off, to be prepared to make something like lewisite, or a V-agent, if someone say, brutalised my girl in any way, then you bet, I would make them die screaming in such a manner, slowly, and painfully. But otherwise, not something I want anything to do with. Hurt the lady on the other hand in such a way, and one can expect nitrogen mustard, sulfur mustard, or more likely, lewisite injected into their eyeballs and scrotum, and to be left to die horribly in a ditch, in the middle of fucking well nowhere.

Lol. Maybe I can be a cantankerous old git at times. But one of the few things I absolutely will never stand for, would be people beating on, or worse, my lady. She is very special to me, indeed, if I had to, I would give my life for her without hesitating for a moment. If somebody wants to live, then they will bloody well not bring her any harm.
Generally I am easygoing, but if somebody brings it to my doorstep, to those I love, to animals, or to those with special needs, then all hell will be turned loose on them. Otherwise, treat me with respect, and one will get it in return. (in general). Got a volley of really quite nasty verbal abuse yesterday while out in the woods hiking, from somebody who I was very polite and considerate of, and whilst at the time, I was on both AMT, and methoxetamine (both currently legal here in the UK) I couldn't even be bothered to waste the air needed to tell him to shove it up his arse and choke. If on the other hand, he had brought his golf club to bear, or started whacking golf balls at me, as he looked about to, then yes, I would have castrated him with his own teeth, and likely rammed him, headfirst into the nearest bin, to be followed up with a stream of piss
I do not, in general, like humans, some individuals, as my lady says, have value, but as a species, they are vile. I don't go mistreating them, unless they bring it on themselves. Some people do not deserve to breathe my valuable (if somewhat polluted) air, and the likes of the arsehole of the other day, 'sblood, HIV would reject him for a piece of dirt unworthy of being spat on.

QuoteI disagree, we can't assume responsibility for making sure dumbasses don't hurt themselves under any circumstances.I say, if you put in "lamen" terms and make it available to non chemists without propper training you have a duty to provide a decent amount of detail about the dangers that go with the procedure.
The chromic acid one is a perfect example, the rhodium archive has plenty of write ups on clandestine procedures using it, and a few words here and there about it being dangerous.
I can bet there is a mistake that can be made where by it steams off into the air, and if you breath it your fucked, these real risks arnt made clear and explained. it is just as important as the procedure itself. so many lab explosions, 20% of all busts come from fires or exploding labs. the cooks are not always stupid, just the dangers were not stressed and made clear when they were given the procedure.
The cooks may not be stupid but as long as they are still cooks they will be playing with fire.
The sheer number of possible permutations of safety hazards is impossible to warn against with that degree of specificity.
People are just going to have to learn what they're doing beyond mixing Xg A with Yg B and stirring for 30 minutes.
Anyone whose safety sense wasn't already engaged when the Cr(VI) came into the lab needs to sit down and take a refresher course on what they're doing and what to do with that waste.
We're discussing the synthesis of illegal drugs. Even with all the idiots out there the #1 threat to a clandestine chemist or cook is still the police. More lives have been destroyed in raids on labs than in lab accidents themselves.
Pass the Hg and the Cr(VI); at least those risks can be handled with proper training.
