Metadata Removal
« on: October 05, 2011, 02:34:23 AM »
Leaving metadata in digital images posted here is the height of folly  ::)  This problem has been discussed elsewhere:

https://the-collective.ws/forum/index.php?topic=21175.0;all

and has been covered at:

h**p://www.anonwatch.com/?p=9

The metadata can be viewed using different means, but the simplest way for most is to use software written for that purpose such as EXIFViewer:

h**p://www.shareup.com/EXIFViewer-download-31453.html

There are also many ways to remove this data, freeware for doing so can be found at:

h**p://www.sentex.ca/~mwandel/jhead/

A great and lightweight free program for this is " JPEG & PNG Stripper" found at h**p://www.steelbytes.com/?mid=30

Some people don't bother with such methods, they just use a text editor such as Notepad to find and remove the metadata   ;D

An article explaining metadata is attached  8)

I couldn't underscore the importance of this thread more than to state that learning the lat and long of where one of my vendors was taking photos of their materials on their phone and uploading the images is one of the most personally dangerous things one can do on the internet...

Busted! FBI led to Anonymous hacker after he posts picture of girlfriend's breasts online.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2129257/Higinio-O-Ochoa-III-FBI-led-Anonymous-hacker-girlfriend-posts-picture-breasts-online.html

"GPS co-ordinates embedded in the photo - as are found in all pictures taken by a smartphone - showed authorities the exact street and house in Wantirna South, Melbourne where it was taken."

WARNING TO ALL. REMOVE YOUR EXIF METADATA FROM PHOTOS AND FILES WHEN YOU POST ONLINE.

The Guardian Project offers many solutions for securing the Android cell phone:

including ObscuraCam:

which would have prevented w0rmer and John McAfee' from being arrested  ;)  Their other applications are quite useful as well  :)  The end results from the effort applied  8)
