Sound Card Data Acquisition
« on: November 14, 2011, 12:13:17 AM »
Sound Card Data Acquisition.

Although you can buy Data Acquisition cards, this method is user-friendly, and every PC/laptop has a Sound Card.

The PC Sound Card and oscilloscope programs, Oscilloscope Version 2.51, and TrueRTA 3.3.1 Oscilloscope program.

TrueRTA it will operate at Level 1, which is free. A more powerful level, enter the Registration Code in the Help menu located User Registration. Enter the code in the appropriate Level field. Upon successful entry of the code you will have an immediate upgrade to the level 4. Menu items will be activated, providing greater power.

I can not find any serials/cracks for TrueRTA v3.5.2 to get Levels 2,3,4 working. Level 1 is FREE.

I've included TrueRTA v3.3.1, and serial, to get level 4 working in Oscilloscope.zip

Look in folder TrueRTA_3 for TrueRTA V3.3.1 serial.txt

Oscilloscope V2.51 (freeware) for Windows is a Windows application that converts your PC into a powerful dual-trace oscilloscope. Oscilloscope uses your PC's sound card as an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) to digitize any input waveform (speech, music, electric signal, etc.) and then presents it on the monitor in real time, allowing the user to control the display in the same way as on a conventional "standalone" scope, for example change gain, timebase or plot Lissajous patterns.

Main features:
Any sound card can be used
Single trace, dual trace and XY modes
Spectrum analyzer (realtime, built-in)
20 kHz bandwidth
Triggering
Point-and-click meter function
Storage mode
Data export to Windows clipboard or disk file

System requirements: The current version of Oscilloscope, V2.51, requires a 80486 or higher PC running Windows95. A stereo sound card with drivers installed is required (either 8- or 16-bit).

This site has gone, so I've included it in Oscilloscope.zip

Unzip Oscilloscope.zip and you'll see two folders TrueRTA_3 and winscope. Save these folders on your hard drive, no installation required.

In TrueRTA_3 folder, execute TrueRTA.exe and apply TrueRTA V3.3.1 serial.

In winscope folder, execute winscope.exe

The Soundcard Scope would appear to do pretty much everything that one does, with the benefit of being freeware.

TrueRTA V3.3.1 with level 4 registration has more functions.

Mate could you please reupload that, it (for some unknown reason) tries to call itself "index.php" which it ain't, it won't open with notepad, but I can't get it to open with WinRAR.

Same for me...Everything I try to download on the forum right now gives me that screen (I realise this should be in site matters, feel free to delete/move it as you wish Vesp)

Here's all I get mate, buggered if I know. I'll try with internet exploder and see if that fixes it (would be novel, something working in IE that doesn't work in FF) :o

EDIT

It fucking well does open in IE, there goes all the unpleasant things I was saying about having to frig around doing workarounds for IE users, the fucking wanker of a program actually does do something the others may screw up.

I'll upload Oscilloscope.zip to the applications folder at http://www.4shared.com/dir/2055525/302b100e/sharing.html for those having issues downloading here?

The oscilloscope with a Wheatstone bridge configuration.

The Wheatstone bridge is a very useful circuit. When the bridge is fully balanced, the right side resistors identical to the left side resistors (R1=R3, and R2=Rx), the voltage across the bridge is zero.  However, with a small change in resistance on one of the resistors, and the bridge becomes unbalanced, and a voltage difference appears. Wheatstone bridge are used in all sorts of sensor devices such as strain gauges, pressure gauges, etc.

A differencing amplifier can be used to extract the common mode signal, while rejecting all of the common mode noise. As a result very small signals and changes can be extracted from the bridge, because common mode noise is easily rejected.

The X and Y are connected to a simple, but accurate frequency oscillator circuit. A low-frequency oscillator (LFO) is an electronic oscillator that generates an AC waveform at a frequency below ˜20 Hz. This term is typically used in the field of audio synthesizers, to distinguish it from an audio frequency oscillator. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_oscillator

Better still, a Voltage-controlled oscillator. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltage-controlled_oscillator

I would gladly provide my license of TrueRTA level 4, which I have not used in over a year, but it's under my real name.
The only difference is that it lets you drill down to 1/24th of an octave using the RTA, and it allows quick sweeps.
Not sure that any of it is even relevant in this case.

There are several USB to PC oscilloscope modules available now-a-days. The Vellemann one, which I own, is OK as long as the voltage is kept under 50V. Only one channel.

"NEEWER Hantek PC Based USB Digital Storage Oscilloscope 6022BE" might also work. (not tested)

Also, before buying a Vellemann, look into the Oswon digital oscilloscopes... (own one) - very neat, and has USB connectivity. I use it in my other hobby (speakers and car audio stuff)

I realize that the thread is old and that's likely why that bit of info was missing. A little background on the kind of signal to be measured, and I could provide more accurate suggestions.
