Hex`s random experiment thread
« on: July 05, 2009, 01:41:18 PM »
I apologise for errors, using a french keyboard while in france enjoying the sun.

Here I continue to try kill myself with chemicals in bizarre ways in the pursuit of knowledge!

Today I plan to use thermite to start my bonfire, and the thermite used is a special blend...

I mixed 60% Fe2O3, 30% Mg, 5% S, 5% SrNO3 first. I made 50 grams. Then I mixed 100 grams of 60/40 CaSO4/MgAl. I mixed them together, added water and cast it in a toilet roll tube, then dried in an oven for a day at 160°C. Once dry, I drilled a hole in it, filled with 50% sparkler mix, 40% of a KClO4 and Fe incendiary, and 10% black powder.

My hope is that it will ignite and work good at making my fire ignite first time.

Also, I have been collecting plant samples here to identify, in the hope I find something fun! The forest is teeming with potential!

finally, I am gathering material to make a big liquid fuelled fireball lifted by 1/2 kg commercial flash powder. It shall be videoed!

More to come, this keyboard is too annoying to use anymore.

Well, some older experiments.

SO... One day I happened to have 100g of TATP to dispose, it had been accumulating in my lab. SO... I got ten grams, and divided into one gram piles. I prepared Mn2O7 and added it to one pile. It went off with a pop. Next pile was added to 5ml of my 99% HNO3 to see what happens. POP. Next pile was added to some NaClO3 and had some H2SO4 added. POP. Next, I added some to 5ml of my 74% HClO4 and it, predictably, popped. Next up was chucking it into 'Pirhana fluid' or 'Caro's Acid' - you know, H2SO4 and H2O2. POP. This was becoming tedious. So I Mixed the remaining 5 piles with various oxidizers in a 50/50 ratio. NaClO4, KClO4, KClO3, KMnO4 and NH4ClO4. Started whacking the piles with a hammer. The KMnO4 and KClO3 ones had full detonations and proved sensitive to the less sharp whacks.

Another time, I added some HClO4 to a ball of cotton, and allowed to react. Then I divided the ball, and hit one part with my hammer. BOOM. Next bit was ignited - FWOOSH. Next bit got wrapped in tinfoil and thrown in a fire, CRACK. I used the last bit by pressing into a tube, loading in a gram DPNA, and detonating. CRACK. Full detonation. So... Nitrocellulose can fuck off, I have PERCHLORATOCELLULOSE!

On perchlorates... Ever tried Hexamine DiPerchlorate? I merely tossed some hexamine into 50ml HClO4, stirred, and then filtered. After drying I found it sensitive to 500mg Lead Azide.

Making R-Salt is piss easy. Its a decent, insensitive explosive.. I will post  a synth. But try dripping H2SO4 on it... POP.

Perchlorating Glycerin never worked out. I just liked to explode and try kill me. PETP (pentaerythritol tetraperchlorate) did the same. How sad. I love organic perchlorates, they are fun.
