Introduction to Programming with Java: A Problem Solving Approach - I need this
« on: January 07, 2012, 05:13:19 PM »

ISBN: 9780073047027
ISBN10: 0073047023
Publisher: McGraw-Hill
Publish date: 2007-12-07

I need this book for college, and I don't want to buy it.
Any chance someone can find it in a PDF version? I've looked but cannot find it. I know others get into torrenting/file sharing more so than I do, so perhaps others would have better luck than I, on some hidden, privileged , or whatever?

Fantastic! Thanks a bunch. I tried a bunch of different sites like that but the little buggers kept trying to make me download a .exe file which is obviously BS.

library.nu

is the ultimate e-books archive.

i almost learned java just trying to EXACTLY pinpoint tickets/problems that the java dev dept at my last workplace was constantly throwing the ball at us sysadmins, taking us for the brute force construction workers that can make stuff happen by banging our heads in the wall long enough...
once it took me two weeks, and they were well aware that was their job, but it took me to explain the exact method, function, etc that they had to touch (it was a lot of numbing, dumbing repetitive work, i admit, but there was no way we could have handled it, and
and really, my condolences to the guy that had to do it), so i could shut them the fuck up, sending copies of the email to everybody in the corporate hierarchy (i'm sure they hate me) mean-the-whole-while myself sweating it, with the clients becoming somewhat semi-polite... praise allah they sacked me due to problems with the law, i felt truly relieved.

IT jobs just quite simply suck.

irony is, i am going to be now working for the original archenemy of open source software...

lol, you're always screwing with me like that :D

yea, i do use archlinux and i do compile from source, and i do truly like PAIN when on GABAnergics, but masochism in corporate environment context... actually that might be fun also. i began having fun at work the moment i stopped giving a fuck i might get fired... and still, when i got fired, my boss started with the prelude that i scored most at that interview test than anybody else, but "he needed people that knew less, but were more reliable". :D i would have called him out for a beer with the rest of the colleagues (i did manage to get one of them high in the lunch break, lol), but i don't think it would have been appropriate, altho i did really like him. he said "problems with the law and security don't mix", lol. i repeatedly told him i understand, but he kept 'explaining'.

we often drank booze in the lunch breaks and she gave me her special chewing gums.

Ok, I know this sounds weak as hell, but could someone please provide a download link to the windows 32 bit Java 2 SDK toolkit (referenced in the "Compiling Tools" section of the book intro)?

Is this the Java SE SDK?

Hm, I guess all I need is the JRE & the JDK?

Yeah, you have to install the JRE & then the JDK.

Problem #1 in the book is now solved. lol

I read a bit of a management book that suggested every team needs a designated asshole because otherwise consensus would drive the whole game into the ground.  Sounds like a couple of you are used to that role.

I once made the powers that be so mad that they reluctantly promoted me but gave me the title "PISS".

Glad I'm not the only one who forgets how they solved something once it's done.

Hey Vesp, I'm stuck on this first part:

"To install the JDK on your computer, you should follow the installation instructions on the book’s Web site. Go to http://www.mhhe.com/dean and click on the JDK installation Instructions link. Read the instructions and install the JDK accordingly. In particular, follow the instructions that describe how to set the PATH variable permanently."

I'm not seeing the instructions for that particular maneuver.

No idea, I haven't done it yet. I'll get to it tomorrow when the first assignment is due. :P
Probably will be more difficult to do so on Ubuntu... but I can just SSH into the school servers and do stuff there.. also

It looks like they're trying to compile a small program using the "javac" command from the windows command line but presumably JDK is supposed to insert such commands in the windows command line path so it can function as such....

Or something....

I didn't see a fucking thing related to changing the path, aside from installation path, of the JDK when I installed it...
