I2P -- EepSite Marketplaces?
« on: March 03, 2012, 11:18:19 PM »
I have read/been told that eepsites, a service of I2P, is able to run any sort of software that a normal server is able to run, and to do so anonymously.

This means that a marketplace that runs on MySQL/PHP/etc should be able to exist on a eepsite just like how some marketplaces exist on Tor.

Is this correct?
Do any of these exist?
If not.. why not? I am under the impression that I2P has some advantages over Tor when it comes to various things...

Thank you very much  for the response! :D

Any pros and cons when it comes to running a marketplace on I2P vs Tor -- or is I2P just simply better?

I'm really starting to wonder why people prefer Tor over I2P for these things?

I suppose it is just because TOR has been tested by time, and I2P is has less peer reviews, and such?

There are similarities between Tor and I2P but there are significant differences as well  ;) I2P uses what is called garlic routing as opposed to Tor's onion routing  :P Tor is quite useful for anonymous web browsing, while I2P is more useful for torrent based file sharing  :) One can configure one's browser to use both at the same time:

if one wishes to browse hidden services and eepsites simultaneously  :-X  Clearly both of these software anonymizing solutions are the authorities' worst nightmare  8)

Why is I2P better for torrenting, and Tor better for web browsing?
I know Tor is slow, so that makes it less than ideal for torrenting - but I don't seem to be able to find the disadvantages of I2P for web browsing.

They both come out to be equal when it comes to browsing hidden services? I.e .onion via tor isn't any better or worse for any particular reason than eepsites via I2P are... or do they? I cannot find any advantages or disadvantages when it comes to either's hidden services. Other than, as I mentioned, I guess Tor has more peer review and testing than does I2P AFAIK.

I2P offers end to end encryption, Tor doesn't  ;) There's only one exit router for I2P users, there are many exit nodes available to those that use Tor  :P  There's more latency in the Tor network since Tor can be run as a client  :-X I2P was designed to overcome some of the perceived weaknesses in Tor  8)

From what I can recall, if i remember right (A big assumption), I2P doesn't need to come back on the same pathway (it can't) when TOR 'likes' to use the same route back, but doesn't need to necessarily.
off to bigger and better things - don't worry I will visit from time to time
