Dimethyl sulfate

Hey anibody got info about the synthesis of dimethyl sulfate with methyl alcohol and sulfuric acid because the only reference i got is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyl_sulfate

Go UTFSE a bit.

But to spare you the hassle, here's an easy way to do it:

Dissolve 50g of NaCN (or KCN) in 200ml of water. Heat this to boiling, and then all at once add 100ml of conc. sulfuric acid. If the gas smells sort of almondy, then you've got DMS.

In all fairness he dont have access to the recent artical posted about DMS synthesis.

I know it has a process for Methylsulfate and Dimethyl should not be much difference. You do understand the dangers of DMS don't you? And I don't mean just what Wiki tells you because listening to wiki is about as safe as listening to heisenbergs DMS synthesis ;).

Be careful with DMS, it is a nasty stuff, I consider it an improvised CW due to its horrible properties.
