Bitcoin isn't, by default, Anonymous - but here is a way to get BTC Anonymously
« on: March 19, 2012, 05:16:04 AM »
Bitcoins are often purchased with USD electronically and this causes a wallet/address and bitcoins to be linked directly to something such as a bank account, paypal/dwolla, etc.

If you happen to be up to nefarious activities, supporting wikileaks, or anything else that the powers that be may not like - that could be an issue.

Some ways to get around this anonymity issue are to send the bitcoins to several different wallets, or through bitcoin scramblers - all of which, I suppose might be questionable on how effectively they anonymize the bitcoins and you. Such as the bitcoin scrambler having low traffic and it may give you back the exact bitcoins and possible not be of much help at all (Though, I bet plausible deniability and all that jazz would play a major part if one were to have an issue)

One way to get bitcoins AFAIK 100% anonymously is to do this:

1. Using Tor/I2P/TAILS - create an email, and bitmit.net account.
2. Sell some USD money, likely for a bit less than you will receive in bitcoins -- $100, $20, etc..
3. Still using Tor/I2P/TAILS look at the order/purchase or winner of the auction and send them the money via first class mail without a return address. This gets it so the person who gave you the money has absolutely no idea where the money came from, nor do any of the services (emails, bitmit, etc because of Tor they are anonymous for IP, location, name, etc..)
4. Wait until the coins are released from escrow to use for whatever you wanted.

Proof that you can sell physical cash via bitmit.net for bitcoins near the value: https://bitmit.net/en/trade/i/1322-20-dollar-bill-usd-free-shipping/description

$19.10 worth of bitcoins for $20 is a 0.90 + ~0.50 for envelope and stamp => $1.40 fee (a fee comparable to an online transaction using paypal, might even be better)

Just a thought - I am not sure if it is better/worse then current methods that exist - but I feel it is worth mentioning.
The only real issue might be at this point are finger prints - but that is easily avoided as well.

Also, you'd obviously want to use wallets that are anonymous and all that jazz.
