You can do it via account settings.

Profile --> Account Related Settings --> Show others your online status?  --> Uncheck box.

I think that will do it.
It is still visible to me though, and probably the moderators.

probably 90% of the time I log in..doesnt matter what time of day, there is a 'hidden' ? (member/visitor/ idk) do you know what this entity is?

I though maybe a bot, but how would it 'get in?'  Sorry for being so dumb..your the only queen I know who might have the answers ;)

hidden could be MANY members but they are just all listed as hidden. So what appears to be one person is more likely many different people always logging in and out.

My thinking on this is that it displays the times that one is logged into a forum to more than the staff for no real benefit. I can't see why this information couldn't be used by watchful eyes to generate a pattern for when a user is logged in which could later form evidence were the persons name linked to the alias down the line. There would be no need for server logs in this case as there could be time stamped screenshots taken.

What I mean is right now (assuming since you can read this you are logged in) I can see that you are logged in and that there is a server time displayed. I could trend this information WITHOUT any access to the logs of this server that I am sure get purged every so often. It is actually more useful than server logs since it is real time and server logs can be erased. Taking screen shots automatically every 10 mins would provide information on what time you are most likely to be logged in if one wanted to catch you in the act.

"catch me in the act"  hmmmm ok I see what you're saying Emon but why would anyone (LE) want to...I mean how would that help them catch me doing jack shit other than reading and fantasizing about clanchem? ;D

what would they learn other than I was here?

If they want to catch me doing ANYTHING more, they better being getting up pretty early and have some awesome powers of deduction :)

Being 'sensible' about this line of play needs a long term approach with a highly randomised element......so far so good

I cant imagine LE keep tabs on members of these fora "personally" I dont doubt this info is recorded BUT whether a real life person is going to check it out UNLESS they have a "reason" imo is unlikely

IF they cant "stitch you up" and send you to jail, they probably wont bother....cops are as slack bored and apathetic as most people re work, and so long as there is a bigger fish or an easier catch if you keep a low profile you 'should' be OK

IME folks come unstuck via A) other people giving them up  B) their own stupidity C) plain ole bad luck

funnily enough, the only one they can't really DO something about is the luck :P
