Dogs & Cats Medicines
« on: June 03, 2012, 05:07:20 PM »
Hi,

One of my friend found some pills in his house , It's an antiepileptic and a sedating medicine for Dogs & Cats

The packaging contain 30 Pills

The composition for one pills is :
- Meprobamate 10mg
- Phenobarbital 15mg
- Sodium Bromure 75mg

Excipient:
Titrated Belladone Powder
Aubepins Flowers and Leaves
Dry Balotte Extract
Gelsemium Extract
Hydrated Colloidal Silicium
Diatomite
Kaolin
Potatoes Starch
Corn Starch
Pregelatinised Corn Starch
Magnesium Stearate

Coating
Acrylic Resin

And he ask me if he can take that for his sleep disorder. What do you think ?

 Question

1 : - Can this medecine be used on Human ? If no what molecule is not good for us ? Can it be extracted ?

2 : - What dosage you think is safe to start ?

I know the normal dosage for :
- Meprobamate - 500mg - 1000mg
- Sodium Bromide 1000-3000mg
 - And for Phenobarbital :

  - Anticonvulsant : Maintenance: 50-100 mg PO TID

  - Sedation : 30-120 mg PO qD divided BID/TID

  - Hypnotic : 100-320 mg PO/IV/IM qD;

No advantage to dividing daily dose because of long t1/2

But i Know this too : Phenobarbital is a barbiturate anticonvulsant and sedative hypnotic his activity is potentiated by brominated derivative and by meprobamate.
Meprobamate is an anxiolytic and a muscle relaxant his activity is potentiated by phenobarbital.

So i think the principal active is phenobarbital but with the potentiation i think the dosage must be lowered

Thanks , Bye

thanks for your answer ! :) really informative

And for your curiosity, my friend only know one persons who have a little knowledge in psychoactive substance, and i'm not sure an i don't want to say take this pills noproblem and find him dead the next day
i posted,  this to know if any compound is toxic for human, if no i don't see why he must not take the pills, because you think he want to abuse it ? and if it's the case it's a better reason to know if it can be dangerous .

I'd try to get rid of the sodium bromide.

sodium bromide is insoluble in most organic solvents
