Carcinogenesis of safrole via inhalation / dermal.
« on: June 07, 2012, 09:30:06 PM »
Hey,

My friend was dealing a little with this compound, so I read some studies of it's carcinogenic properties, but... all are by oral ingestion.

Inhaling the ''smell'' of this chem and touching it, or submerging a hand in it, will more likely cause a cancer in the future?

People that have studies can put here, I'm very interested in the pharmacology of this compound!

Regards! ;)

The metabolite of safrole that causes liver cancer in rats and mice hasn't been found in humans that consumed it  ;)  Thus there's no solid scientific evidence to support the belief that safrole is carcinogenic in humans  :-X There's a lot of information available on the internet, so there's no way it's all going to be posted here  :P Two articles are attached for study  ::)  The conclusion of the 2012 article that all herbal teas are potentially dangerous to human health should clarify the real agenda of these regulations  8)

man safrole is not carcinogenic at all, it is a superconvenient use of a tiny study to justify the banning and perpetuating the propaganda that mdma and safrole and everything to do with it gives you cancer or whatever.. maybe drink a litre a week and in a few years when you get cancer youll know its dangerous.

but i mean, the active dose for mdma is .1 of a gram how much safrole could you even injest in a pill that has .3 grams..

and also, half a gram of safrole anywhere, in your cup, on your skin, on your clothes, stinks and tastes like hell and it wont go away, so safrole in any amout to harm, its just not gonna happen

Wouldn't want you to get healthy by accident and not need all their medicines.  And you wouldn't want anything with real flavor showing up in food either cause people wouldn't eat so much.  Looking for them to ban whole pepper any day now. ::)

Read an article in CE&N on some research they did on the relationship between aromatics and satiation
the article is titled "Food that Smells too Good to Eat".  The scientists,  in typical nerdish fashion performed experiments using human volunteers.   Long story short, they found that if they gave people "retronasal puffs" of various aromatic compounds  while they were eating they spontaneously ate less!!  Yes!! people are satisfied quicker if food smells good!!!

To quote:  "You can smell aroma in two ways.....Aroma inhaled through the nose takes the so-called orthonasal pathway.  Aroma is also released from the mouth into the nasal cavity during chewing and swallowing of food and drink;  this pathway is known as the retronasal route"

"Aroma compounds delivered via these two different routes stimulate different sectors of the brain.  The orthonasal route activates brain regions associated with wanting and anticipating food."

That's why your stomach starts growling when you smell good food cooking.

"The retronasal route activates areas of the brain that are linked to a sense of reward, leading to sensations such as satiation."

The scientist no doubt envision hooking everyone up to Expensive Patented Machines that will give you retronasal puffs while you eat so you can lose weight.  Almost as much use as taking the vitamins out of food and then putting different ones back.  They also helpfully point out that a variety of aromatics worked better than just one.   That's why 1/2 cup of curry does me in where 2 cups mashed potatoes doesn't satisfy.

The route that makes someone $$$ is the way scientific information will be used.

Scientists employed by the fragrance industry have contended that safrole is safe for human consumption in view of the evidence as opposed to those writing for grants from various cancer research organizations  ;)  The attached article discusses various issues about potential liver problems from drinking herbal tea around the world without accounting for other more common causes like viruses and alcoholism   :P  Thus it seems that most if not all these studies are done due to the time honored publish or perish regimen in acadamia as opposed to seeking the truth  ::)  The old saying about following the money trail still rings true  8)

Yeah I thought that too... but , you know , these days you don't know what to believe haha!

Pure sensationalist propaganda, prohibiciofascists it's what I call to people like the FDA  or the idiots who made ''the world's most dangerous drug'' documentary.

Sorry for my bad english and bad explanations  :-\

Thank you lugh for that information!!!  ;D
